Susan Boyle Goes Into Hiding

British singing sensation Susan Boyle is tasting the dark side of fame. Hounded by the press and allegedly caught dropping the F-bomb in public -- Britain's best-selling newspaper The Sun has dubbed her Ramboyle -- the demure spinster from Scotland has ducked out of view. But, after one of the show's judges, Piers Morgan, suggested she was considering dropping out of the competition, Boyle insists the show will go on.

"I've spent weeks rehearsing -- it's all I've been thinking about. I'm not going to throw away my big chance now," Boyle, 48, who has moved to a secret location, said in a statement posted on the Britain's Got Talent Web site. She wants "nothing more than to stay and sing," she says.

I was laughing when I first saw Susan Boyle on American Idol, I thought she was going to do something silly and just make everyone laugh at her, but instead she amazed me with her beautiful voice. I am telling you I was so blown away I got tears in my eyes and the goosebumps. I think that she should continue the competition strongly and finish it because I do think she will win. Susan should of known what she’s getting her self into, she did sign up for something that can be life changing, and having her say that this competition wont change her life is unlikely to happen. She is already crying over how everything is different and how she may want to quit the competition. I think there is no such thing as the easy way out. Life is complicated either which way you choose to go. If you whish to be rich and famous, you cant have a normal lifestyle, whether you try to or not some things are out of your control, like the paparazzi, and bad rumors in the tabloids. On the other hand you can choose to live a normal life and having to work full time to be able to survive. Life is about choices and you decide what you want to be and you go and get it.

What is your point? I am of the same opinion regarding Susan Boyle as AmandaBC. I don't like Susan's singing style - too shrill and bravado for me. I studied voice for years when I was younger, so I do know a thing or two. It is just my personal opinion. You don't have to agree. If listening to Susan Boyle sing makes you happy, then bully for you!

I would pay to see Gareth Oliver (the singing ventriloquist that was eliminated) and Greg Pritchard if he was singing soprano. Those two are the only two that I'd put out money for of all the ones on this season's show.

There aren't only two positions re: SuBo. It's not like you have to either love her or ha.te her. I don't ha.te her, I'm happy that she could find success and money, but I just don't think she's such the singing sensation some people (especially the media) want to make her into. People who don't follow musical theatre think she's the greatest Broadway singer since Julie Andrews. She isn't. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Go see a musical at your local theatre, chances are, you'll find LOTS of totally unknown singers who are way better than her.
Same thing with Andrea Bocelli (another prefabricated phenomenon that exploits people's sympathy for his condition.­) I've heard many comparing him to Pavarotti and Domingo, or even calling him the greatest tenor in the world. No way! He's a POP SINGER. As an Opera singer he's less than mediocre. Ask anyone who follows Opera, especially in Europe, where people are more knowledgeable about it (many Opera-goers in America are rich conservative phonies out only to show their wealth off.)

Bottom line: SuBo is way, way overrated. If people didn't take her personal story in consideration, she would have never become famous.

Like I said, I don't ha.te her and I hope she can fulfill her dream of becoming a professional singer. But I won't buy her CDs.

I don't have strong feelings either way about any celeb I don't know and I'm curious why some posters here take it so personally if someone has a differing opinion than theirs. It's like Susan Boyle is a member of their family or a close friend or something. The same goes for any other celebrity. It's only entertainment, not a life or death situation.

Susan Boyle is a person who is specifically 'different' than the ordinary media icon. She has a particular talent, and is otherwise an ordinary person. She is not a Barbie Doll and she's not Jennifer Lopez.

She's ordinary looking, yet she appears different, and is clearly very sensitive and vulnerable, and in our culture, ordinary looking people incite the hatred of the ignorant, and are derided when they appear on national TV, because they don't fit into the media stereotype of sexy or beautiful. These haters are the same people who attack those with disabilities, and in fact, some people here have suggested that indeed Susan Boyle is a person with a disability, having suffered a brain injury as a child.

So to answer your question, people identify with her as they would an ordinary person. They see members of their families, friends, or themselves, in her. So when you have people of low intelligence like the haters on here, insulting her and putting her down because they have infantile concepts of beauty, it stands out as particularly offensive.

People have revealed their ignorance, stupidity and lack of empathy, and what they don't realize is that they are getting the temporary sick gratification of attacking a vulnerable person in public, but they are also revealing how lacking their own personalities are in depth of intelligence and compassion.

This woman was teased and bullied as a youngster. She had been taking care of her mother in a small town, she is not "wordly" nor was she seeking that reputation. The media can not leave anybody alone. My guess is that her "systems" don't cope well with pushing, shouting and questioning. She has lived a quiet life. Where are the ones who are making money on her. That she is talented is a gift, that we get to hear her is a gift to us. She is not going to change for the gd media hype. And for those who say that Susan Boyle should have known what she was getting into and that this kind of media comes with the territory, no one on earth could be prepared for over 100 million youtube hits and the intensity and type of public attention she has received. Even people who crave attention and have grown up in the public eye would not be able to handle this onslaught as they prepare for a competition. Susan is a terrifically strong and courageous woman to be able to perform at all under this pressure. Go Susan! Whatever might happen in the finals, you have already won.
