Normally, I wouldn't go into the ins and outs of Simon Cowell's current series on British TV. That's not what you click on to GlobalPost for ... But given the YouTube-generated planet-wide interest in "Britain's Got Talent" contestant Susan Boyle, and in the interest of explaining to you the very odd sociology of British media, I feel I must descend into the murky swamp of low culture.

Guess subsequent events have closed the mouth of this naysayer.

I really dislike this headline . . . so she lost . . it must be painful to her .. . very painful . . . but she has a wonderful voice there is no reason why she can't make a record deal and perform . . . this isn't the end . . . unless she decides it is . . . the media really do like to hug a person one minute and discard them the next . . it makes for column inches . . . to sell newspapers . . . nothing more . . .

she had a learning disability and was taking care of Mom.... lets see what does that tell me... let me think on this one...........

Let's take the learning disability topic first. It is not the dark ages anyone, many learning disabilities can be overcome. If one checks, there are many 'bright' people with learning disabilities of one kind or another.

Let's handle, she took care of mom. From reading, she was close with her mother. Maybe, not in America, but there was a time this was normal when mom or dad became aged.

Other readings stated Susan was teased and bullied when young......... that is pretty tough on a kid not to be accepted by their peers.

Is Susan feisty? -- You bet! Watching her on stage during her introduction and also initial exit, displayed she was a feisty lady.

Her make over? Any woman, with the world watching her, would want a new hair cut and hair color. Even American Idol folks, do not always look the same at the end of the show.

Frankly, I though she had a beautiful voice, and hope her singing is heard in the future.

Besides, are the Brits wanting a Scottish uprising?

A very cynical analysis but as a Brit he may see more than we North Americans do... but frankly while Susan sings beautifully, she was really at risk- they said she was the youngest of what 6 kids and she is the one who got the job of taking care of Mom- she had learning disabilities- what does that tell you? There was no supporting family anywhere to be seen and frankly I don't know that she was properly taken care of.
She should have been shielded from the media but then that wouldn't have made any money would it?
I do hope that Simon helps her set up some gigs to make her some $$ to ease her life.
And I hope the Queen was watching because Susan deserved to be heard.

The media chews her up and spits her out. I hope she remembers to protect herself from "writers" like the guy who wrote this.

The media, yes, but unfortunately society as a whole chews you up and spits you out when you are of no use or no interest to it any longer. It was a bad sign that she let herself be remade even to a small extent. There are genuine people in the world like Susan and there are millions of phony or at least fickle and/or superficial. Enough said. Yours sincerely, Holden Caufield.

What they fail to realize is that Susan actually accomplished what she set out to do. I admire her greatly for that. T'hell with the media and their sick sensationalism. They have been hounding her ruthlessly. She needed to go into hiding. We live in a cruel, judgmental and sensational world. Susan touched the hearts of so many. Now the vultures will circle around her to consume her.

Time will tell.
I love to hear from all these armchair talent agents, who wouldn't have the nerve to do what she has done.
Try it, grandpa.
