U.S. Rep. John Sullivan, of Oklahoma, checked himself into the Betty Ford Center in California on Thursday night for treatment for alcohol addiction, according to a written statement from his office.

I have empathy for Rep. Sullivan. Most people would since he came out and owned up to his weakness. That being said, maybe we ought to withhold our empathy for the congressman because, according to his colleagues, empathy in any shape or form is a bad thing.
Good for him seeking treatment, and that he can afford it. BTW is his "good health care coverage" provided by the US TAX $$$ paying for it?
When will these legislators begin realizing we have a medical problem with substance abuse, not a criminal one?

According to media sources, the good Congressman has been arrested at least three times and yet he still gets all that right wing "law and order" support. You don't suppose that with another election coming up next year, the good Congressman was thinking of clearing the decks of all his past transgressions in time for the November 2010 vote?
Taking notice of his 100 percent support of Bush Jr. and the right wing positions on all major policies, we can only wonder if he was just drunk the whole time or is he just mentally challenged?

While I hope rehab works for him, I can't help but point out how hypocritical it is that this guy gets the best drug treatment in the nation. Look what the GOP did for drug addicts in my state.

Apparently, like so many other decisions these people claim everyone can make about how and with whom they live their lives, he "chose" to be an alcoholic. Now, he can "un-choose" to become a non-alcoholic, right?

Oh my gosh, that means the people of Oklahoma have been represented by drunken rep. But on the otherhand it is the land of good ole boys and drinking is part of their way of life, he must have decided to make a decision all by himself for a change.

Yes, the good ole boys keep putting them back in office. If that had been a Democrat or an African American, although there are no African American politicians that I'm aware of, Oklahoma would have been in rage and asked them to step down immediately!
But the people here are wishing him a good recovery and say, "he did the right thing and he chose to check himself him".
As far as I'm concerned he should have checked himself in prison along with Jim Inhoffe.
