U.S. Rep. John Sullivan, of Oklahoma, checked himself into the Betty Ford Center in California on Thursday night for treatment for alcohol addiction, according to a written statement from his office.

Hold on, why would he be checking into Betty Ford when he hasn't first been caught stealing, beating his wife, in a compromising position with one or more interns half his age or all of the above? Could Sullivan really be a man honestly dealing with a real problem and not just some criminal looking for an excuse after getting caught? Wow. Never saw that one coming.
Good luck, Mr. Sullivan. Just be careful not to surrender to the wrong "higher power".
Most drunks have to hit bottom before they get help. His personal bottom might not have been in the gutter with an intern, and it is none of your business.
Unlike most of his peers, this guy is honest with himself. That is the first step in his sobriety and his ultimate change in party registration.

no matter how despicable a person is, if they are seeking professional help then we should hope for them to have success.
Good for him. I personally wish him well. Maybe a national converation can begin regarding addication and treatment vs. incarceration. Alcoholism and addicion are diseases that can be managed. God bless him during his recovery.
Good for you Congressman. Nice that you are a rich dude though. Most people can't afford private inpatient alcohol treatment. Heck most people can't afford private treatment for any medical condition. Just remember that when a universal healthcare plan comes up for a vote and help out those of us who aren't so priveleged.
Much as I like to ridicule conservative idiocy, it actually took some character to admit himself. ....while he's still a seated member of Congress. Get well! And consider becoming a democrat, because there ain't too much character on the conservative side of the aisle.

Empathy will suddenly become a word the Republicans embrace when it comes to Rep. Sullivan.
Is Sullivan's stay at Betty Ford paid for by his medical insurance he gets as part of the perqs of being in Congress?
For someone who is against universal health care, where all Americans would have the kind of medical coverage our representatives in Washington have, using insurance for drug treatment would be quit hypocritical.
