U.S. Rep. John Sullivan, of Oklahoma, checked himself into the Betty Ford Center in California on Thursday night for treatment for alcohol addiction, according to a written statement from his office.

I hope you come through this with empathy for all kinds of addicted people. I am hopeful that we can move to a point, like Sullivan apparently has, that we look at abuse as a health issue, not to be hidden and not to be a legal issue.

These are the people who are always throwing stones. And every time we look up one of them is going to rehab, or something of that nature. If they didn't throw stones, nobody would look at them at the hypocrites they are.
Hmmmm. The congressman says: "My family is going through a difficult time right now, and I ask that you respect their privacy and keep us in your thoughts and prayers," he said. "With God's help and strength, I will get through this most challenging time in my life."
Something tells me another big story is about to break here. Probably along the lines of Sen. Vitter of Louisiana. Repubs don't usually have their come to Jesus moment until they are busted and fully exposed, then it's the alcohol made me do it defense. As much as I'd like to respect his family's privacy, the repubs had no such respect for the Clintons and exposing their dirty laundry for all to see and Ken Starr threatened to jail Monica Lewinsky's mother unless she divulged all the intimate secrets her daughter had revealed to her. So whatever Rep. Sullivan is hiding, I say shine the light on it. Don't think for a moment they would give Sonja Sotomayer the same courtesy.
yep, you betcha. It's usually a reporter's due diligence phone call that triggers these jeebus lover's admissions of sin, The fun part is in guessing how depraved they really are before the story breaks.
Will you feel stupid if it turns out that the only story here is that Rep Sullivan is an alcoholic and is going to rehab and there's no other scandal involved? That could be the case. I didn't vote for him, but he's my Rep and I'm proud of him for his strength and honesty. As a real human being with flaws of my own, I wish him the best.

I have sincerely believed that for a long time. It is a plausible explanation for their incredibly bizarre behavior. It is no secret that doctors hand out mood altering prescriptions by the handful. I am sure they all claim "stress."
