Detroit can rot.

The people of Detroit deserve to lose their jobs and homes. The Red Wings can move to Hamilton.

These people sing along to Journey because it mentions South Detroit. Lame.

Another useless article from the Wall Street Journal. It'll be very simple for GM to hit the target 39 mpg. Here's an example of a small diesel with a 1.9 TDI engine can get : 72 mpg

GM will make clean diesels, hybrids, and plug in hybrids so if it makes trucks as well, it could easily hit that mark.

What happens to the "VOLT"?? I thought that was GM/s answer to everything?? And they were close to production.....was that a lie???

No, but it was a lame idea. They wanted to sell the Volt at $15K more than what the Japanese are selling their hybrids. Their plug ins won't be anywhere near $40K. That car is DOA, since Americans can no longer get loans for cars they can't afford, and $40K is way too much. Figure with tax, licensing, and any extras, that car would easily be over $45K out the door. That won't do.

We own it. Let's make GM a model company.

Have them make fuel efficient cars that EXCEED the government's standards.

Buying a majority share in GM was unavoidable or else there'd have been an economic disaster for millions of people (not to mention the effect on the stock market).

Now we've got it, let's not back away from nationalization. Let's make it work in a way that makes it a viable model for other industries as well.

So you are suggestion more industries become nationalized? And, what impact would a BK GM have on the stock market since the stock is already under $1.

Well, look around you. Capitalism failed. Did the stock market come to GM's rescue? No.

Amtrak provides decent service in urban areas with dense population. Linking metro areas (for example Chicago-Milwaukee-Madison-St.Paul/Minneaplois) has proven difficult. The difficulty being Republican politicians at city, county, state and federal levels, witha lot of barking by right -wing media hacks, hold up the modernization and expansion of these networks.
And by the way-those airlines are doing a superb job, too!! (snark, snark, snark).
