More religious based terrorism. Why does religion drive some people to massacre?

"Thomas said Muhammad would be charged with first-degree murder, plus 15 counts of committing a terroristic act. He said those counts result from the gunfire occurring near other people."

Wonder if Tiller's assassin will get the same charges for each of the church members in attendance?

Terrorist charges for a muslim, no terrorist charges ( as yet) for a religious white guy?

More domestic terrorism.

Something broke in this country over the last eight years of warmongering, torture-endorsing, revenge-seeking, brainwashing.

I noticed in articles refering to both of these heinous crimes that....in the Tiller murder, the lunatic was being held for "suspicion of murder" while the lunatic in the military recruiter murder was being charged with "terroristic activities" because he shot "with people near by."

Huh? Wasn't Tiller murdered in a crowded church?

What we learned today is that wackos of all kinds kill people for no good reason. And where is Obama's statement on this as opposed to Tiller? How sad.

Why drag the President into this? He made a statement due to the uproar in this country specifically between Pro-Choice & No-Choice constituents. This is a hot and emotional topic in the US that has divided the country.

As far as Muslims are concerned, most Americans realize that the issues with Muslims are for those based over in the Middle East.

Blaming the President for this is pathetic.

I'm sure the President will make a statement on the killing. He just hasn't had the chance yet. I agree that you shouldn't blame the President.

You can be assured that President Obama will express similar sentiments regarding this act of violence in America, especially towards a member of the armed forces.

As Commander-in-Chief, I am certain this grieves the President. He may, yet, make a statement.

What is sad, to me, is this tit for tat. Why not just feel for this family?

At my bible study there are men who believe all Muslims are going straight to hell. One of them has a son in the Air Force and gets shot at regularly flying into Baghdad.

Of course I usually stick up for Islam, saying 99.999% of Muslims are good people, peace loving, and just want a warm home, food, and education for their kids like the rest of us. I argue the Muslim fundamentalists are no different than the Christian fundamentalists, like that nutcase that killed Tiller.

The sheer volume of Muslim violence, against Christians, against the US, against each other...it keeps going up and up. It's getting harder and harder to defend their faith as valid, and a good basis for someone's life. Equal to Christianity. I don't think "Love thy enemy" is in their book, maybe someone can enlighten me.

This latest killing won't make it any easier for folks like me, who try not to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few.

Without "Love thy enemy" families, tribes, cities, entire nations escalate violence and revenge into warfare. Look at Israel and the Palestinians --- both sides utterly doomed to unending violence. What Jesus taught --- love thy neighbor, love thy enemy....without people willing to obey that teaching there seems to be no hope for most peoples. And I include those FALSE Christians like George W. Bush who use Christianity as an excuse to go to war, claiming "God spoke to him"....

What you described about Bush is the true meaning of using God's name in vain. And although we get on you occasionally, this is a great post wadenelson1.

So at your Bible study, there are men who disagree. So Christians can't even agree among themselves, yet they want to make the rules for the rest of us? They want to set the moral standard for the rest of the world, when they themselves can't uphold that standard?

Why stick up for Islam? They don't support Christianity. You're right in that Muslim Fundamentalists are no different than Christian Fundamentalists. They will die for their cause, no matter what the facts say.

You said the killing won't make it easier for YOU to judge. Who made you God so you could judge another human being?

As far as the last part about love, I won't even bother. Christians are some of the most hateful and arrogant people I've ever met. Hate George Bush all you want, but he was the "Head Christian" of this country for 8 years. Look what happened to us!

Christian is as Christian does. To claim "Gott mit uns!" yet commit acts in direct contradiction to the teachings of Christ is called *hypocrisy,* not *being a Christian.*

History is riddled with hypocrites who wrap themselves in their country's flag and wave the Bible claiming "Gott mit uns!" while committing the most barbarous acts imaginable. To conflate the misdeeds of authoritarian hypocrites and scoundrels with what it means to actually follow any given religion that preaches peace, mercy, compassion, and forgiveness is to descend into intellectual dishonesty worthy of the very hypocrites and scoundrels own specious claims of "Gott mit uns!"

END PART I

Christians have shown just as much propensity towards violence in the name of God as the followers of Islam. Why do you think that so much of Bush's war briefings were framed in Biblical passages.

The fact is the recruiter was killed by someone who was at best confused in his faith and at worse an angry murderer. Let us give prayer for his family in this time of their loss.

"Gott mit uns!" has always been the favorite rallying cry of the scoundrel, as surely as patriotism has always been the scoundrel's last refuge...

Human beings have misused religion of every description since time immemorial to justify the most heinous of acts.

This neither invalidates the teachings of religious traditions that preach compassion and mercy and non-violence, nor does it change the actual truth of the message, no matter how many quacks and fanatics may try to twist the truth to serve their own selfish, and overwhelmingly political ends.

Christians have gone to war and warred on many faiths, including Muslims.

There are many who ignore what the Bible commands in order to perpetuate violence. Christians. Muslims. Jews. Etc.
