I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Rolling Stone's "green issue" is a real attention-getter. Australian model Miranda Kerr -- you may have seen her as a Victoria's Secret angel or on fiancé Orlando Bloom's arm.

According to news.com.au, "She says she decided to go "au naturel'' to raise awareness of the environment, specifically koalas."

Here's the cover:

Sorry Miranda, but seeing your lithe naked body does not make me think of Koala bears.
But you should take that as a compliment.

Speaking as the mother of a teenage daughter, pictures like this on major publications scare me. Look at those arms!!! - I certainly hope that my daughter does not try to starve herself until she has equally thin little toothpicky arms! Is this really what we want to tell our daughters is beautiful?

Um, some people ARE naturally thin, you know.

My daughter's skinny just like I was (am), and yes, she IS beautiful.

So sick of all the haters who think being thin and beautiful is unnatural.
Maybe some people have a standard beyond average dumpiness.

Some people do have a problem with the creation and maintenance of such "standards" by commercial interests.

I think I might also have a problem with the nakedness and the being chained to the tree. Why is that so beautiful? I do like koalas though.

I guess I could reply to myself by saying that that woman is at anyone's mercy... which is obviously a turn on for some... So probably the thin arms are the least of her worries.

You're last sentance was incomplete. I think you meant to begin with "Um, like..."

Yeah, it is. A majority of Americans are obese. Let's stop pretending that's a good thing, OK? If our sons and daughters aspired to being a little slimmer than most of them are, it would be a good thing.

Um, obesity is not proportional to frame size, just so you know. It's your BMI.
There's the annoying common misconception that in order for you to be obese, you have to have a tyre hanging around your hips. That's not the case at all. You can be stick thin and still considered obese depending on how healthy your body is with its metabolism and degree of activity and fat distribution.
Skinniness should not be motivation. It should be health.

Well I think it's you as a mother, more than a cover of Rolling Stone, that is supposed to teach your daughter she is beautiful, and that's whether she's a bit chubby or has "toothpicky arms." I don't like it when people put down others for being naturally thin, just as much as people who put down others for being over weight.

Came on the site with pure intent. Wanted to read Gangaji's words of wisdom. Ended up looking at naked ladies. It seems I get distracted easily. Behind all this seems to be consciousness communicating with itself. Spanking, monkey, airhead, good, bad..........all thoughts. Created by whom or what? Is that you or me doing that or is there something creating those thoughts which 'we think we are creating"?

Naked, airbrushed and chained to a tree for "The Green Issue?"
At least they could have left her Birkinstocks on.
Sex sells. I wonder why they didn't have a naked guy chained to the tree?

It is Rolling Stone. A a mostly pathetic pop culture rag written by White Middle Class Suburbanite wannabes and groupies to sell records and stuff -- founded by a narcissistic wannabe groupie, Jan Wenner

If God had meant us to go around with no clothes on, we would be born that way!

No wait.... uh...

If God had meant us to go naked, He would have created the first man and woman that way.... No, that doesn't work either.

I guess I don't have an objection after all.

I don't know who this Ms. Kerr is but she looks about as thin as a holocaust victim. I assume they airbrushed out the shadow cast by the exposed ribs.

Naked On Rolling Stone For Career; it's just that she also thought it would be a cute excuse if she said it was for koalas. Here's a digital painting based on my nude photograph, presented in order to get your attention, Rolling Stone reader, so that I can now talk about the environment, specifically koalas. Bait and switch! Except by then the magazine has served its purpose and the RS reader never actually reads the article.

Rolling stone should stick to music. Magazines run the risk of alienating half the country when they come out whining about politics and enviroment, etc. Most people just want to hear about the music and not get preached to.

Rolling Stone has been as much of a political and social magazine as it has a music magazine since its inception. No reason to change now.

Yeah, Rolling Stone is going to learn that its readers don't like political articles and stop buying the magazine.

What? An article about John Lennon against the war? Well, that was the 60s, bunch of hippies then.

What? Hunter S. Thompson, full of fear and loathing on the campaign trail? Well, that was about drugs, man, HST is all about drugs. Things are different now.

What? Bush and the evangelists? Iraq War opposition? Swiftboating Kerry? Obama? Palin?

If you want to read about music and not about politics, go read Creem.

BTW, I think RS would be more than happy to sell magazines to the half of the population not alienated by smart journalism.

You are right... Time... Newsweek... they should stick to.. uhm... stuff.. not things like politics and the environment.. which apparently only half of the nation gives a damn about, but as long as you avoid both, they will buy your magazine.

Ludicrous.
