Stephen Colbert "Thrilled" By Poll Saying Conservatives Don't Know He's Joking

Colbert the character, a right-wing blowhard on a one-man mission to reeducate the ignorant, is convincing enough that a recent Ohio State University study found that a majority of conservatives polled believed Colbert the man was one of them.

The irony couldn't please him more. "I'm thrilled by it!" he says, sitting in his New York office, a pack rat's homage to the show crammed with pictures and props and a "Lord of the Rings" pinball machine. "From the very beginning, I wanted to jump back and forth over the line of meaning what I say, and the truth of the matter is I'm not on anyone's side, I'm on my side," he says. "

Despite her use of the word 'gaffe' Rebecca Ascher-Walsh appears to understand _exactly_ what Colbert did at that (in)famous Press Club Dinner, _and_ where his sympathies undoubtedly lie. Namely on the side of US -- who were delirious with joy that Obama was elected; that the bums were thrown out, that the ju. nta was over.

But she uses a rage-makingly smug 'the-establishment-is-us' P.N. AC-press-release tone that implies that Colbert's performance was 'declasse' at the least, and active sed1t1on at worst.

Which begs the question "Is the LA Times _that_ react10nary? Are the editors _all_ Ne. 0c. 0n t0. adies and l1ck. sp1ttles?" We could ask Robert Scheer -- he got the b00t as their house token liberal. -

Today, we have a name for what Thatcher did to the UK -- it got 'The Shock Doctrine' -- it was perhaps the first vassal state to adopt the Empire's prescription of Friedmanite policies, wholesale. So much so that objective and unbiased economists and commentators think that it may be finished, economically - like Marc Faber, Jim Rogers, Nouriel Roubini and Nassim Taleb.

Its vital financial industry has been destroyed, the country bankrupted, its oil wealth is actively running out, and its industry destroyed by Madam Thatcher. Eva Peron eat your heart out -- it's the new Argentina -- complete with New Labour (Neocon in drag), and soon to be Conservative, government -- and huge civil unrest. Rebecca (author of article) was dead wrong on one count. Colbert did not bomb at the White House Correspondents Dinner. It was problably the best routine ever given. The beltway does not like to be made fun of even when they really deserve it. Everything Colbert said was true and he said it in a hilarious way. The truth hurts, but delivered by Colbert, it was great!
