Washington Post:

Former vice president Richard B. Cheney personally oversaw at least four briefings with senior members of Congress about the controversial interrogation program, part of a secretive and forceful defense he mounted throughout 2005 in an effort to maintain support for the harsh techniques used on detainees.

So which war criminal should be prosecuted first?

I think we have a winner.

Congratulations Mr. Cheney. Even among war criminals you have disguished yourself.

Repost (live with it)...

"For meetings that were overseen by Cheney, the agency told the intelligence committees that information about who oversaw those briefings was "not available."

(snip)

"One of the most critical Cheney-led briefings came in late October 2005, when the vice president and Porter J. Goss, then director of the CIA, read Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) into the program on the interrogation methods, according to congressional and intelligence sources.

"One knowledgeable official described the meeting as contentious. Cheney and Goss, with other CIA officials present, tried to persuade the former Vietnam POW to back off an anti-torture amendment that had already won the support of 90 senators."

And there you have it, campers... your answers to:

(1) Whether the CIA lies.

(2) The veracity of Cheney's collaborator, Porter Goss, as a 'rebuttal witness' to the claims of other participants now refuting the CIA's characterization of the briefings.

(3) Any doubts concerning the 'Punch And Judy' puppet show arranged, produced and directed by Cheney in a transparent (and partially successful) effort to mislead and dupe participating lawmakers... the SAME lawmakers GOP apologists now claim "approved" torture.

Is there a threshold, in print within our laws somewhere, of exactly how far a president or vice president must go before being charged with a crime? And who is the keeper of this information?

Well I know one who was impeached for staining a dress. Let's just say the bar is pretty low now.

We long ago "passed that threshold" . . . the Republican enablers allowed the lust for power and wealth to blind them to the FACT we are a NATION OF LAWS with justice for ALL . . .

Had Cheney had SEX with something rather than have led us into a MULTI-BILLION dollar illegal war, KILLING over 5,000 AMERICANS - they "might" have had a problem . . . . seems sex and greed are the only issues of concern in Republican world . . . .

"In print within our laws somewhere..."

The answer is literally carved in stone on the front of the United States Supreme Court building in Washington D.C.

It says, "Equal Justice Under Law."

Because it's hard. I want it , most posters at this site want it , but I don't think there is a national will - yet. The more they speak , the more people come to the light. Nothing convicts like arrogance.
As an aside , if your country is a signor of the Geneva Conventions - or perhaps as a part of your membership in the United Nations , then your nation might have the standing to insist upon an investigation. That would move the debate.

We're afraid of our government. In the case of health care they are apparently going to side with the industry that has been killing us for decades as well as crippling our economy but we're still not mad enough to actually DO anything.

Nations where the government is afraid of the people are better run than ones were the people are afraid of the government.

WASHINGTON — Just over half of Americans say torture is at least sometimes justified to thwart terrorist attacks and the country is evenly divided over whether to close the Guantanamo Bay prison, according to a poll that underscores President Barack Obama's challenges in selling his terror-fighting policies.

Just over half Americans are also wrong. Torture has been and will always be illegal.

The Bush Admin. changed its justification for aggressively attacking Iraq ... one of their reasons was that SH committed crimes against humanity ... that man was put to de ath vis a vis kangaroo court proceedings ! The Bush Admin. specifically Che ney should be tried & convicted of the same ... crimes against humanity, more specifically ... a documented t or ture programme !!

Talk about immunity.

This may be the first time since Nixon anyone has gotten away with prosecuting himself in public.
