Washington Post:

Former vice president Richard B. Cheney personally oversaw at least four briefings with senior members of Congress about the controversial interrogation program, part of a secretive and forceful defense he mounted throughout 2005 in an effort to maintain support for the harsh techniques used on detainees.

He wanted to torture. He authorized torture. He should be convicted for torture. Period.

Some of you posters should read the full article. It outlines how he personally briefed senators that had been opposing the use of torture and who were mounting legislation to make it illegal. It also details how the fact that he was present at these briefings was kept out of the official records. Makes it puzzling that Pelosi's presence at briefings is such of point of contention with the Republicans, now that we know who was giving the briefings.

The man has no bushes to hide behind any longer. We are all now aware of who was responsible for it's use and that he still remains its greatest champion.

This article also states that the "war criminal" briefed only GOP leaders on Nov. 1, 2005, at a repub only luncheon ... and, that the room was cleared of all staff !! This was the day just before the WP published a detailed acount of the CIA's secret overseas prison system !!

What does it matter if congress approved Cheney's torture creation, is this Cheney's

1. strategic legal defense by blaming Congress... Congress did it, not me!

2. attempt to pull congress down with him... hey, if I am prosecuted then so should those Congressional members!

3. way of trying to stop his own prosecution because we would then HAVE to prosecute those Congressional members who were "briefed" but didn't do anything about his evil intentions... thereby making any prosecution more complicated and convoluted.

4. perhaps these three are one in the same... so, all of the above... each one further incriminating himself.

Cheney's logic has been twisted for years, and I sincerely think he has finally lost his mind because he feels in part responsible for 911 when Bush's Administration paid no attention to the threats of Al Quesidilla that were screamed at him by the previous administration, CIA. and others including Al Quaeda.

And like an idiot Cheney freely admits that "they" (his administration) didn't know much about Al Queada. Well, why didn't he take the security of The United States of America seriously before 911?

From Rawstory:

“One of Al Qaeda’s goals, it’s not just to attack the United States, it’s to prove that we’re hypocrites, that we don’t live up to American principles,” Alexander said. “So when we use torture and abuse, we’re playing directly into one of their stated goals.”

http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/05/26/military-interrogator-torture-american-lives/

Mr. Cheney will always continue to defend the use of torture against the idea of admitting he'd been had.

Wake up people, Dick Cheney has now incriminated every single citizen of the United States into his torture crimes against humanity because we all now know. If WE do not prosecute him, we are all guilty of aiding and abetting his crimes.

To be clear Dick... you are guilty of torture by way of water-boarding (among other techniques necessary to investigate) did you forget about the law?

Let's be clear Dick, you are guilty of war crimes, did you forget the war you illegally started?

I think Dick is suffering from a bad case of senility or guilty feelings.

Every American soldier`s death is a case of negligent homicide against the Bush Administration and every Iraqi`s death a murder.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:54 AM on 06/03/2009

negligent homicide, are you making a joke?

Clearly murder in the first degree! Cheney's was planned and premeditated, albeit poorly planned... unless their defense will be, "We went to war at the spur of the moment out of emotional outburst of rage."

The Republican mantra, "we kept the homeland (the homeland?) safe for 7 years."

OK fine, let's give them credit for that. But at what expense? Trillions of dollars, a broken economy, no health care reform, no educational and science advancements, etc, the lives of thousands of innocent people and more importantly the lives of thousands of United State's Soldiers later?!?!

I see this as "what is the difference between killing our troops here or there... they were killed on foreign soil?" The epitome of Cheney's twisted logic.

Republican's see this as "Those American Troops volunteered their service and were aware of the risks." No kidding, I actually heard one of their pundits say this but can't recall which one.

I don't care what he's suffering from, it seems our government is suffering also from NOT WANTING TO INCRIMINATE A FORMER PRESIDENT OR VICE PRESIDENT and that is disconcerting even more.

Why does there need to be any investigation or truth finding mission? He has admitted his guilt over and over and over. Can't his statements be used as evidence? Arrest him already!

Remember those two soldiers, Specialist Charles Graner, and his former fiancée, Specialist Lynndie England, were sentenced to ten years and three years in prison, respectively. Graner to serve SEVEN more years!!!

WHY ISN'T ANYBODY CALLING FOR GRANER'S RELEASE OR PARDON (sorry for yelling but I am upset and feel like my voice is not heard)???

When will Cheney be legally held accountable for his crimes against humanity? Torture is a crime against humanity and the breaking of International Laws set down in the four treaties of the Geneva Conventions, of which the United States is a signatory.

Why the delay? Can the United States just ignore wrongdoing, even if that wrongdoing was perpetrated by those who held the highest offices in the land? That didn't happen at the Nuremberg Military Tribunals in 1946. In Nuremberg, Nazi judges, doctors and civil servants were tried and most sentenced to life imprisonment for their crimes against humanity.

I think the rest of the world should look at America as being basically like a superhero who's been on an 8-year heroin binge. It's going to take us a while to clean up and get thinking straight again, but when we do, it will be an unstoppable juggernaut of justice, putting things to rights.
