Eminem/Bruno: YES It Was Staged

NEW YORK — The head writer for the MTV Movie Awards has settled the debate: the stunt involving Sacha Baron Cohen and Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards was completely planned.

Comedy writing veteran Scott Aukerman wrote in a posting on his blog that the incident was staged and rehearsed in advance.

At Sunday's award show, Baron Cohen appeared in character as his gay fashionista Bruno. He fell on top of Eminem after being suspended above the crowd. The rapper appeared to find little humor in the stunt and stormed out.

Speculation was rampant over what was and wasn't real. Baron Cohen, Eminem and MTV have yet to comment on it.

Aukerman's posting has since been removed. His manager didn't immediately return a call Tuesday.

LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy was at the MTV Movie Awards. He posted a blog post yesterday saying "Eminem is a better actor than you think." I think this proves it.

Reminds me of the MTV awards in 1994 when Howard Stern flew down from the rafters on wires in a jumpsuit with the cheeks cut out as "Fartman". LOL! That was the year the young people smacked down the status quo and just got totally absurd and cynical on the MSM. I vaguely remember some members of Nirvana (? not sure) pointlessly climbing on globes and statues as Kurt Loder tried to interview people in the foreground and was completely distracted. That was around the time of South Park, Beavis and Butthead and other such satirical rebellion. It took a long time, but I'm glad we loosened up everyone's collars so boring, pretentious outdated people have to come down to earth a bit to get our attention rather than look down their noses at us.

Long live the totally absurd MTV Movie Awards! Still loosing up the collars of America after all these years.

I'm sure there was an arrangement before the show, where "Bruno" asked Eminem to participate in a "skit," but it looks like it didn't turn out the way Em planned.

When Bruno is still high in the air, they cut to a shot of Eminem, so this shows that at least Eminem was part of the skit. I think Cohen probably told Em he was going to fall in his lap or something similar, to get Em's participation, and then punked him.

Eminem has no problem with gay people whatsoever. He is not homophobic any more than Tarentino is racist. Sometimes certain artists choose to explore certain dark elements of society.

We watch movies that depict things we don't agree with/approve of.

We buy novels which present grotesque scenes we don't approve of.

The job of art is to paint vivid, honest portraits of genuine struggles and emotions, so why do we feel so passionately that music should only paint of soft, cuddly bunnies? Is music not also art?

The hypocrisy is incredible.

Eminem is a master poet. Like MANY other poets, he chooses macabre subject matter. Yet, his is somehow worse/inferior because he recites it to a hip-hop beat. I guarantee you that if his words were bound in book form rather than sung, he'd be lauded as one of the great American poets of the century. His form and rhyme scheme is mind bending... truly incredible. I dare anyone of his critics to write a poem as structurally intricate as an average one of his songs.

What burns people is the fact that he can be so gifted naturally and did not go to uni for 8 years to get the skill.

So you honestly believe that Mathers and his "posse", WATCHING Cohen coming down on top of him for at least 15 seconds before contact, wouldn't have jumped up out of the way? And possibly even taken a few swings?

He'd actually get a bit of respect from me if he was indeed in on it. It seems "Bruno" for sure was in on it, but Em is questionable to me. If he was though, good on him--really shows his ego is far more in check than it was in the past...
