Eminem/Bruno: YES It Was Staged

NEW YORK — The head writer for the MTV Movie Awards has settled the debate: the stunt involving Sacha Baron Cohen and Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards was completely planned.

Comedy writing veteran Scott Aukerman wrote in a posting on his blog that the incident was staged and rehearsed in advance.

At Sunday's award show, Baron Cohen appeared in character as his gay fashionista Bruno. He fell on top of Eminem after being suspended above the crowd. The rapper appeared to find little humor in the stunt and stormed out.

Speculation was rampant over what was and wasn't real. Baron Cohen, Eminem and MTV have yet to comment on it.

Aukerman's posting has since been removed. His manager didn't immediately return a call Tuesday.

Fascinating. I think TV is just getting better and better. This staged television event was actually multi-layered and worked on several different levels. I think that the whole episode was an allegory for man's inhumanity to man. Well done, Bravo.

Let me cast some serious doubt that this was staged. Why? Well, besides the fact that no rapper wanting to brandish himself as a tough guy would allow this, let alone a white rapper who consistently tries to prove his bonafides. The hip-hop community and its listeners have a long history of homophobia, its almost part in parcel as it is in country music. However, to me that is not the real "proof".

I've been a long time Youtube director. Universal Music Group has aggressively made copyright claims on the Eminem's image after the awards show. They are essentially scrubbing any video that shows the footage from the Music show. Universal is Eminem's label. If this was staged, I don't think we would see so much scrubbing going on Youtube. Universal doesn't mind Eminem video's being copied and posted on Youtube, only the scene showing him getting tea.bagg.ed. That to me is proof that this was NOT planned and Universal is in crisis mode. I would not be surprised that Universal has determined that the only way to curb "damage" is to plant stories saying this was a stunt after viewing Eminem's initial fan response.

I know its not MTV (Viacom) because scrubbed video's also say who it was that claimed the copyright. MTV owns the broadcast rights, but Universal owns Eminem's image. Post your own pirated copy and see for yourself.

Well if your a tool of corporatists, one wouldn't care I suspect. It doesn't matter the content or players, its about what is and isn't fair use under the copyright law. I'm sure your corporate masters would be proud of your defense of them.
