To be fair, the "talent" at KTLA is mostly jiggle. If you've ever seen their news, then you know they must have the highest percentage of former beauty queens on a single news staff, A degree in meteorology is not the first requirement for being the weather girl, nor is Pulitzer rolling in his grave over Lu Parker's conflict of interest. Let the mayor have his fun; he's probably not having any being a mediocre mayor.

I can't believe the absurdity and caustic tone coming from HP posters. What the man can't date someone? So what that he dated another anchor before, that's what dating is about, you date someone and it either it works out or it doesn't. Yes, he's the mayor a big city, so if the TV anchor decided to compromise her integrity by dating a man that she may cover that's her and her networks problem not the mayor's. It says more about the woman, because she wanted to date a powerful man and didn't value her job enough to stay away from the mayor. It is not about having an extramarital affair, or getting laid, or race, or political affiliation, or invasion of privacy or whatever.

It is because the mayor sleeps with news reporters. That is unethical for both parties.

It compromises both their jobs. The reporter is no longer objective. The mayor has an unfair advantage.

It is a violation of the public trust. OUR trust.

It's really that simple.

Why?

McCain married his mistress and went on to be a senator and presidential candidate.

Newt Gingrich married 2 of his mistresses (He has been married 3 times), and has aspirations of being the next president.

Rudy Giulani also married his mistress when he was mayor, and went on to be a presidential candidate, and now wants to run for governor.

Bill Clinton had many mistresses when he was governor and even as POTUS.

And there are many others in politics who have done exactly as Villaraigosa did, without any outcry or damage to their political careers.

One of the first things that I tell the students in the journalism classes that I teach is not to date your sources. They may be cute or smart or funny, but they're still sources. Hook up with people you don't cover. You maintain your integrity as a journalist better that way. Also, if things end badly, you still have to interview this person. It's best if you just don't let it go there.

Obviously, no one has taught that lesson to either of Mayor Villaraigosa's last two paramours.

As tough as it is to find a job in the news business these days, taking chances with your job to date a source is a Bozo no-no, especially if you've got an anchor gig in a top-5 market with national potential. I've interviewed all kinds of politicians in my job and some of them were gorgeous. But I made the mistake of dating a source once and it did not end well. Made for some really uncomfortable municipal meetings.

Besides, there's a reason why most home designers don't put the bathroom anywhere near the kitchen.

Great advice! My motto has been that I don't dip my pen in company ink. LOL...I don't date men I work with and I do work with very attractive men but if things don't go well, I still have to work with those guys.

You think that these TV "faces" are actually journalists? If they were hired for their journalistic abilities I will be stunned and become a monk. We all know why they were hired, so who cares who they sleep with as long as it is off-camera. As for Antonio, he will never get elected to anything again anyway. He has failed to do anything useful for L.A. as Mayor and thinking he could be Governor is enough to make us all ill. Our choices for that job, based on who has announced, are already too awful to contemplate. As with the initiatives on the ballot, the candidates should have a Yes or a No choice. Sacramento would be a ghost town.
