Conan O'Brien opened his first "Tonight Show" with a sketch that shows the host running from New York City to Los Angeles, where the "Tonight Show" is based. He was in a rush, but made time to visit the Victorian Doll Museum and ruin a Cubs game only to realize he left the keys to the new studio back in New York.

WATCH:

When he "arrived" on stage he poked fun at himself and NBC in his opening monologue: "I think I've timed this move perfectly: I'm on a last-place network, I moved to a state that's bankrupt and 'The Tonight Show' is sponsored by General Motors."

He also showed the audience his first Lakers game in which he had awesome seats, much like the other celebrities in attendance.

WATCH:

Many wondered if Conan's sketches would follow him from New York to Los Angeles, and they did. In addition to the cold open, O'Brien dubbed over the White House Press Conference introducing Sonia Sotomayor as Obama's Supreme Court pick with some interesting words from Joe Biden.

WATCH:

Will Ferrell was O'Brien's first guest. He called Liza Minelli a "Commie" and led the audience in a chant of "U-S-A" before singing Conan a goodbye song that confused the host. Ferrell explained himself saying, "Don't get me wrong. I'm pulling for you. But this little thing is a crapshoot at best."

WATCH:

Despite some mixed reviews, more people watched O'Brien's show last night than "Letterman" and "Nightline" combined.

Quick Poll

What did you think of Conan's first "Tonight Show"?

Hilarious!

Pretty funny and it will only get better.

Eh.

I miss Leno.

Yeah, this opening was retro-Conan and that's not going to be enough. I think he should have REALLY hitch-hiked to LA with one cam/dude in tow and twittering all the way! Arriving to studio all stinky, nasty and unshaven 4 reals :) AND joining him on stage, the half dozen real Americans who brought him there. Think of the viral video!!!!!!!!

ps. hire me---anyone?

He will be cancelled or they will give him a side-kick. He was horrible. The format is childish. I did not enjoy it,, he should keep me entertained while being somewhat informative. Just like Jay did and David letterman and Kimmel. They speak of current affairs while humoring them.

He did a lot better tonight.

I've been a huge Conan fan since day one but only laughed once during yesterday's show -- when he did that off-the-cuff impersonation of Jay. I'm elated to have Jay out of that slot, but I hope last night's show wasn't indicative. I have a sense he'll find his groove.

Hi, I'm Will Ferrell, an overexposed, unfunny sloth.

I'm sorry, I know it's fashionable to like Ferguson but as much as I try.....I have a hard time understanding a word he says....I know it's a me thing, but I find myself really having to concentrate....that's not why I watch these guys.

Loved the opening scetch of Conan running across the country, and thought the Taurus skit was good. All in all, I think he pulled it off....Conan Style.

He did seem a bit nervous and not very relaxed, but that will change.

Agree with you on the opening sketch, thought it was a hoot and loved the scenery to boot. Also I was very impressed with his running, he looked like a gazelle. Never thought he could look so athletic.

BTW, the worst thing about Conan, in my opinion, is that he's a terrible interviewer. He doesn't let his guests talk. And if he has a comedian on, forget it. They won't get a word in edgewise as Conan tries to prove to the world that he's funnier than anyone else. Some of his bits are funny, but he's just an awful, horrible talk show host.

Conan wasn't too bad. Good to see he's not going to try to change his schtick too much. But why bring back Andy Richter? ugh.

Will Ferrell is just not funny. Never was, never will be. Painful to watch. Stick to the bu.$h impersonation on broadway, leave the movies to sandler and stiller. At least they're half funny, sometimes, on occasion.

Conan is just not as good as Johnny was, Jay, Dave, and Graig are! Conan just is not that funny and his timing has never been that good!

Ferguson is funnier!
