With the General Motors bankruptcy just hours old, lawmakers are already jockeying for control over where GM plants will be located.

Just yesterday, Republican Lamar Alexander of Tennessee suggested to the Senate that his home state would make a great home for GM plants. Senator Alexander also expressed concern that the Obama administration would build future GM plants in Democrat-controlled states.

Today, The Wall Street Journal reports that there's already a battle emerging on Capitol Hill between legislators from states like Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, who are battling for the future of GM :

The Journal writes:

"Skeptics say that despite the government's pledge to stay out of the way, the process is going to get messy.

'I think where GM builds its next plant is going to be more of a political decision than a business decision," said Rep. Pete Hoekstra, a Republican from western Michigan. "For the foreseeable future, these car companies will be run by the Obama administration, and it will not be arm's length.'"

Can you say SUCKERS?

Is this a good idea?

Or would, by transferring the 60% ownership by a single entity, the U.S. Government, separated equally to each of the 154 million tax-payers filing individual federal tax returns, WOULD THE CONTROLLING INTEREST IN GM then be transferred to the next largest of the 40% interest holders?

Isn't controlling interest important?

Hey, USA to Earth2Obama.org, President Obama himself said he has no interest in running GM. Yet another group subscribing to the party of no's fear tactic.

"Obama has no interest in running GM"

Then perhaps you could explain why he fired the CEO, told them what kinda of cars that they can make, told them that they cant ship cars in from China to America, etc.

Perhaps one day you will learn that what a person says and what they do are two DIFFERENT things.

Wouldn't it just be common sense to put them in a location where there is already workers trained to do this work and losts of empty car factories??! Come on Republicans, isn't it more important for these jobs to stay in the USA??

TN did everything include get on its knee's to get the Saturn Plant.

The GM plant is closing because they no longer make car's there. GM (Saturn) outsources its cars to Opel.

Its funny that all these GOP Senators in Southern States that moved most of the major Military Installations from the North to the South etc, are now crying foul.

I wonder what kind of car Larmar drives and where it was built.

Lamar, you just don't matter that much. You are an irrelevant republican minority.

Well, we can be sure what Lamar Alexander would do if he had the power to locate the plants.

Perhaps you should actually watch the video. Nowhere does Sen Alexander say ANYTHING about where the plants should be located.

Lamar Alexander?! This guy still exists?

Michael Moore already proposed using Michigan to build a bullet train for the entire country.

They have to go in MICHIGAN!!! We have all the workers here.. ready and able to go to work.
Most of the people from the Downriver Detroit area who worked at the auto plants were from Tenn anyway.
Keep the plants where they belong!!!

Alexander is right. Within a few years the only Americans who will be able to read and write will probably be living in blue states.

I'm sure that Senator Alexander protested loudly when the last POTUS lied the country into war and then awarded all the no-bid contracts to all his cronies...

Other than the fact that this IS NOT a government function to "run a company". Why exactly should the government take control of bad companies that simply can not compete!?

You know, he's probably right...

Thanks to Republicants proving to be as silly and disconnected as he is, it is getting pretty hard to find any Republican states.

Sounds like projection to me, Lamar. Where would you put them, TN because TN deserves them?
