Newsweek:

"I'm going to vote for Mousavi on June 12," says Ali. If he were a student activist or a reformist politician, that wouldn't be a surprising declaration. But Ali is a 52-year-old member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and has been since the 1980s.

This just goes to show that you can't judge a people by their leader. Well, you can to a point. Look at us. Or at least some of us. Something like 22% of us still want to believe Bush and Cheney were great, or at least good leaders.

I am looking forward to Mousavi getting electing by a landslide after watching the debate last night between him and Ahmadi. Can't wait for June 12th results.

PBS had a very interesting documentary on a recent trip Rick Steves made to Iran. What it showed was a people who love this country and, as one woman put it when asked if they hate Americans: "The leaders do but the people don't." It was not only interesting, but it made me wish that this could be required watching. They also said that the true leader is the Ayatollah. It would appear that Ahmadinejad has something else in common with Bush -- a very overbloated sense of importance.

I guess they are not so different from Americans at all. Everyone wants competent leaders who put Country First rather than self. Ahmadinejad is a lot like Bush, when you think about it.

I am glad the citizens of Iran are having their own ah ha moment. Time for a change. Send this guy home. Without Ahmadinejad the rhetorical threats against Israel will likely decrease or be eliminated entirely.

Interesting and timely piece.

Well what do you know, the voters in Iran and not Netanyahu may take care of Ahmadinnejad.

Too bad the Israel voters did not do their part in not electing Netanyahu. Any peace process will be made that much more difficult because Netanyahu is also like Bush. Warmonger. Angry rhetoric. Constantly focusing on the region with negativity. Warmonger.

Hopefully the Iranian people will vote him out of power and vote in a more moderate leader.

Democracy in action....

Ahmadinejad is not really the problem, its the supreme leader who has final authority over everything, including the nuclear program. No matter who is elected, the nuclear program will probably continue since the supreme leader wants it.

I may be wrong, but I think that Iran is about to undergo a huge shift in its policies which will in turn create the opportunity for a better relationship with the United States. It is actually a very modern country and one of the most democratic within the Middle East.

I understand that Ahmadinejad translated is "Yale C student."

Now this is news worth reading! This gives us real insight into a country that is an issue with us and learning of this perspective is very valuable to us all to know. It think that it may show that the masses, the people of any society usually think in their own best interest and over time they influence and evolve their countries political system for the better. This is a sign of that going on in Iran. Thanks for bring this story to our attention.

Ahmadinegad and Bush had many common traits:

A tendency towards jingoism, a "rough and ready" populist image, seemingly zero empathy for the man on the street. They were a sign of the times and ended up being each others best support.

Hopefully the alimentary tract of Iranian politics will pass Ahmadinejad as we passed Bush/Cheney.

This is like a communicable political disease that started in the 80's and has finally come to fruition around the world like a toxic bad dream. The world has survived garbage before, so it will probably survive this time but the suffering it has caused everywhere is unconscionable.

I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about, did you read the whole story? Are you old enough to remember the suffering of the Iranian people under the Shaw?

Didn't start in the 80's.
You'd be closer to correct if you said 1953.

Wait just a minute here.

Perhaps this guy hasn't been the best president for the IRI, but let's not compare him to the incomparable failures of President Pan.

Pan has set the bar of failure in terms of number of failures and size of failures that Brother Ahmadinejad would have to live 1,000 years to come close to making a small dent in Pan's place of pantheon of failure.
