I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Chinese officials blocked video cameras from filming at Tiananmen Square on Wednesday... with umbrellas. Reporting from the square, CNN's John Vause was chased around by plainclothes Chinese officials who placed open umbrellas between CNN's cameras and shots of Tiananmen Square. As Vause points out, the men with umbrellas are wearing walkie-talkies and are members of China's vast security network guarding the square during the 20th anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square uprising.

Attention Walmart shoppers!

You've been paying for those umbrellas

and the thugs that twirl them.

Do the Chinese government really think that an umbrella (ella ella hey hey) will change the fact that the entire world knows that they brutally killed possibly thousands of unarmed protestors?

For a nation and culture supposedly big on honour, they certainly do show that they are utter cowards.

You sure those people aren't just out of work employees from DerMonkie's administration? They have the same hatred for transparency and openness most RepubliKans express.

A vast improvement over having allowed no reporters at all. Times are changing in China. They can no longer keep the rest of the world out.

Does this strike anyone else as kind of, .....childish??

I mean c'mon....

At least they didn't "celebrate" the anniversary by bringing in armed troops and killing everyone.

Quite an effective technique you gotta admit. It's much less dramatic than soldiers putting their hands over the lense so it takes away from the news worthiness.

Does America commemorate the murders of students at Kent State by the National Guard? Do you teach this in your schools? Do you even admit to this very dark day in your history? Just wondering.

Run, don't walk, to the nearest American university near you. There you can learn about and freely discuss such topics as Kent St., the race riots and murders of the 60's, and the injustices visited upon the native Indians. After a little education maybe you won't disgrace yourself with such a post.

Kent State? 5 people killed by jittery National Guardsmen who shouldn't have be carrying live ammo. Murders in the 60's? Crazy yahoos who were fighting against the INCREASING amounts of democracy being FREELY given to people so long repressed in their own country.

Huffington Post? What freedom means in a democratic state-- freedom to criticize the government.

Criticizing the government in China will get you killed. Whatever happened to the man who tried to block the tank with his own body. "Disappeared."

With the reports of China hacking the Pentagon, has anyone thought of hacking into China with news and video that the government blocks?

China is not blocking news and video, just false reporting.

BBC Busted for claiming China blocks news to its own people, which is not true.

While I am sure there is plenty of STOCK footage they could have used, was pretty funny to see the reporter trying to get an angle, lol. reminded me of an SNL skit.

The question to me is, do our leaders watch this and say "Shocking ! This must stop!" Or do they say "Good job! That's the way to shut out the truth!"
After seeing the way our government and media reacts to protesters in America, I think it's the latter.
"Capitalist or communist. Two sides of a bad penny"

I do think umbrellas used to stop the cameras is much better than tanks though...maybe some progress there.

Nah, if it was university students protesting that government, they'd probably still be using tanks .... but with umbrellas blocking those pesky foreigners who want to document the event this time.
