Obama Lunch

President Barack Obama was greeted with cheers last week when he stopped by Capitol Hill burger joint Five Guys.

The president was joined by NBC anchor Brian Williams and a crew that was filming a behind-the-scenes "Inside The White House" special.

The NBC footage shows Obama and Williams en route to the eatery, Obama with his feet up on the opposite-facing limo seat. When Williams asks whether Obama watches debates about his presidency on cable TV, Obama says, "I have to say, I generally don't... It feels like WWF."

When they arrive at the eatery, Obama -- impatiently knocking on the locked door of the car -- is told that he must wait for the press. He responds by saying, "Why do we have to wait for the press?" Personal aide Reggie Love then opens the car door and says, "Hold on one second, Mr. President," to which Obama responds "I don't want to hold on." And out the door he walks to a crowd of cheering customers.

The clip offers a glimpse of one of the most frustrating elements of the president's job: the demanding group of handlers and security officials who constantly surround him.

Once inside, President Obama orders "one cheeseburger and one fries for me" and pays for the food with money from his own pocket.

You just don't know just how much I enjoyed this brief glimpse into President Obama's daily life. The sad thing is, there are some out there who'd say he shouldn't be going out to get burgers as there's some crisis going on somewhere. To them, I say, put the inner curmudgeon away for a day and live. Life is way too short.

Can you imagine the clowns from the last admin paying for anything out of their own pockets? I figure the taxpayers paid for everything including all the carry ins.

Great video!! This is just part of Barack Obama's persona that makes him so likeable. Not above getting lunch for himself and his staff . . . . and you can tell he genuinely enjoyed being among all the people at the Burger Joint. I've had those burger cravings myself and I completely respect his desire not to wait for the press or anything else . . . I'm hungry NOW!!!

Unbelievable... just lap it right up! Please read Dan Froomkin's article, link just below the video.

We're not paying attention to the right information. This kind of attitude is simply dangerous: we've GOT to be more vigilant. Melting into a fawning little mushpile at the site of a presidential burger run is really juvenile.

Behind the backs of the mainstream, some major bad policy decisions continue to be made.

I'm afraid America will never learn if this celebrity worship keeps up.

Have fun with your Idols while your liberties burn, you dimwits...

Even if bad policy decisions were being made, it has little to do with celebrity fawning. It has to do with other political influences.

Despite your clinging to negativity, Obama has made huge differences already. I am proud of how different he is from the others. That doesn't mean I expect to agree on everything. I do however, have a realistic view of his role, expectations, influence and realize that he is not magical and cannot influence everything to his liking.

Seems to me that the people who really expect magic and holiness from him are his biggest critics. The rest of us who adore him actually understand that those ideas are not reasonable. Perhaps the celebrity worship comes from people like you. Take a good look at yourself and what you expect from the POTUS. I know what I expect. It is not perfection. It's improvement.

I know. This lapping up "burger-run" photo-ops has got to stop. Doesn't anyone see where "brush-clearing" photo-ops got us? For God sakes people wake up! We might end up in two wars, an economic crisis, secret torture rings and who knows what all behind this constant burger eating.

Can you imagine, you're sitting at a burger joint and the President just rolled up? Unbelievable.

Really? Her name is Reggie Love? Like in "The Client"? That's cool.

It's great to have a President who is is own man.

His name. He is on all the "hottest" men lists.

Misleading. Didn't see any frustration. Just a guy needing to order a lot of burgers for him, coworkers, and a guest.

Reading through these posts I'm struck by the pride and admiration of this president.
Hopefully this will inspire more bright, energetic young people to enter public service and think of contributing to something bigger than themselves, rather than chasing the almighty dollar as preached in the 80's and 90's.

The republicans need pragmatism and realism, to win the hearts and minds. Right now, all they have, in that empty store of ideology, it's antique dogma. It's educative, but not objective, no longer practical.
