White House: Bin Laden Timing Not Surprising

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The White House says it's not surprised that Osama bin Laden has released a new audio recording threatening America just as President Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a major speech on the United States' relationship with the Muslim world.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says Obama advisers haven't yet been able to completely review the tape, but found it consistent with past bin Laden messages.

Gibbs said Wednesday that al-Qaida obviously is seeking to shift attention away from what he calls the president's historic efforts and continued efforts to have an open dialogue with the Muslim world. The message was broadcast for the first time on pan-Arab Al-Jazeera Television around the same time Obama touched down in Saudi Arabia at the start of a Mideast visit.

Osama has already accomplished his mission. He was responsible for the most horrific terrorist attack on American soil. He forced us to spend much blood and treasure to respond to his tactics. On top of that, Bush's 'spend to achieve security' philosphy ensured that our financial system would suffer for the deficit spending. Americans are not reacting in terror to Osama anymore because we are fed up with being afaid of the "boogie man." Osama is probably running his mouth now to try and remain relevant. Any attacks he sponsors on the US now will be seen by muslims as disrespectful to Obama, who, because of his heritage is considered by many to be an "honorary muslim." Whatever works to keep Osama in check works for me. I'm sure that he has left the caves and is probably living in some remote village chillin'.

Advanced kidney disease? Please. Rumors disseminated by the military and the media echo chamber to minimize the seriousness of the enemy and the threat he represents.

As long as bin Laden is on the FBI Most Wanted list, and the military continues to engage in activities to locate him, you can certainly believe he is alive, because he may as well be.

Osama bin Laden appeared in a videotape September 7, 2007 celebrating his 6th year of freedom since the attacks, and released eight subsequent audio recordings on a regular basis throughout 2008 and 2009.
