Listening to the President's speech only reinforces the belief of myself and millions of others that we indeed make the right choice last November 4. I am so proud of our President.

I am personally filled with great pride listening to him as he represents all of us here in this shattered country. For once in participating in an election I wasn't forced to choose the lesser of two ev!ls but rather a great man who will no doubt move us out of the dark into the light we have sought for so many years.

It is so wonderful to have a President who conducts himself in an intelligent and dignified manner. I can't help but think the people in Cairo are thinking the same thing right now.

As many of you know this is the field of my vocation and I see first hand the monumental wastes and egregious practices, some on behalf of the medical field reps while most on behalf of the insurance entities. I am now and remain steadfast towards volunteering as many hours of service towards a better solution for all Americans in their health care needs. The system we have now benefits, the doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies leaving the patient as the least important benefactor in the equation. That must be changed as soon as possible,. we've already waited too long..

In the current system the only relationship that is not directly exploitive is the doctor-patient relationship.

One thing that scares the right about progressive policies is that, once they're in place, people like them. We've all heard people who live in countries with real healthcare systems that they would riot if it was taken away.

Likewise, look what happened to the Repubs when they tried to take away Social Security. So much for the theory that America is a center-right country.

It will be interesting to see what kind of half-baked plan our current leadership will work out, hobbled as they are by the needs of the insurance industry. What a sad spectacle! I dream of a day when Democrats are Democrats again...

Dems use w ar funding bill for more GI benefits
By ANDREW TAYLOR – 10 hours ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — Congressional Democrats are using an approximately $100 billion w ar funding bill to give recently expanded GI Bill education benefits to the children of mil itary service members who di e while on active duty.
The move also lobs a political hand gren ade at GOP leaders who are organizing opposition to the w ar funding bill, which also would provide $5 billion to cover the risk of default on a new $100 billion line of credit for the International Monetary Fund.
With some anti-w ar Democrats remaining opposed to the bill — and with a handful of Democrats also opposed to the IMF funding — Democrats remain short of the votes needed to pass the emerging deal. Private talks fizzled Wednesday and Democrats scrapped plans to have an official House-Senate negotiating session on Thursday.
Republicans opposing the w ar funding measure over the IMF provision would invite at tacks by Democratic political operatives poised to accuse them of opposing help for the children of service members ki lle d in Iraq and Afg hanistan.
"They're playing politics," said Mic hael Ste ele, spokesman for House Minority Leader John Bo ehner, R-Ohio.
"No one has sac rificed for our country more than the m ilitary child who has lost a parent," said Edwards.

If the "government" did nothing else - they should legislate that all medical/health insurance be administered by non-profits, including malpractice insurance. Also, too, that pharmaceuticals become non-profit.

We need national health care. Single payer health care. I'm sick of hearing horror stories about Canada, Britain, or wherever. France has a great system. I live in Japan. I like their national system better than the American system. I don't want to hear about 'triggers' and I really don't want to hear what the insurance industry has to say. Let the insurance industry compete with the big bad inefficient government. I want to see it. Hey insurance industry, put your money where your mouth is. If single payer government-run health care is such a bad idea, you should have no trouble trouncing them in the free market. Bring it on! But I'm pretty sure I'd rather deal with an inefficient bureaucracy than a blood sucking insurance company. It's an easy choice from where I stand.

For God's sake America wake up! Next to allowing Rupert Murdoch citisenship, allowing health care to become a commodity is the most profoundly stupid action.
I am a 52 year old Australian. You know, from that socialist country occupying a large chunk of the southern hemisphere? 13 years ago my son was born with a large tumour in his stomach. He was in danger of starving to death the moment his umbilical cord was cut.
My wife an I set about finding and getting the best paediatric surgeon and anaesthetist (as we call them) to remove the tumour. The head of Paediatric Surgery and the head of Paediatric Anaesthesia at The New Children's Hospital Westmead, travelled across the city to our northside hospital, did the proceedure and supervised my son's recovery. Our combined incomes were about $US 230,000 The cost to us? ZERO.
How can Australia afford it? Wrong question.
How can any industrialised country afford not to have it?
So how's the Australian economy doing with all this- you know- government interference stifling free enterprise?
It is one of the few nations not in recession. Australia hasn't seen 3 quarters of negative growth since 1991. Yesterday Australia posted record favourable balance of trade figures. Housing prices are increasing in most capital cities and 4 of the top 15 banks in the world are now Australian. Underpinning all this economic resilience is a civilised universal health scheme.
Come on America, get angry, get well, get universal health care.
