Isn't it really in America's economic interest for China to go back to being Communist? I think so. Won't happen though. We've made them too powerful.
Now the Commies are totally entrenched in China!
Remember the free-market predictions;
"WITH TWENTY YEARS OF FREE TRADE CHINA WILL BE A DEMOCRACY!"
Illegal Human Organ Trade from Executed Prisoners in China
... and as a result, there has been an incredible rise of illegal human organ sales. ... The wealthy man knew the kidney would arrive after a prisoner was www.american.edu/du/TED/prisonorgans.htm
I've seen video footage of his encounter with the tank, which is almost as powerful as the photo. You can see that the tank stops in front of him, and then actually starts to go around him, but he just keeps putting himself in the path of the tank, even climbing up on top of the tank!!! Eventually a person on the street pulls him away. Some say it was a person concerned for his safety, others think it may be someone taking him away to be arrested. We still do not know what happened to him.
Perhaps, in our lives, there will be a moment when we will demonstrate such courage.
where? here? in the USA? puh-leeze. only if its in a video game would an American stand up to a tank to make a statement about human rights.
right now half the country says torture is justified!!!! gahh!!!
"tank man" will always be an international symbol of freedom's fight against oppression. i am in awe of this man's courage, and hope that he will always be remembered and honored.
he wasn't a soldier, he wasn't famous. he was just coming home from grocery shopping.
but he isn't wearing a flag pin so he is just a commie-mooslum-terrier!
just helping the tr0//'s find a talking-point to yammer about :)
That must have been a frightening moment. For some reason I think of the old movie I saw in college called "High Noon" that of the HUAC (red scare) investigations of the early 50's.
I was barely a teenager when T-Square went down. I didn't understand any of the back story. All I knew was that this man was standing up to tanks, unconcerned for his well being.
Today, I fully understand his motivation for doing so and appreciation is not the word. Awe is more fitting. I am in complete awe of "tank man". He defines what it is to stand up for your rights and whatever it is you believe in and are passionate about. The world needs an Army of Tank Men.
Good question. If the tank driver or commander, or their superior, disobeyed orders for moral reasons, then he is he not also a hero?
lets hope we have plenty of men like this everywhere. That man is the definition of Hero. He stood up to not just China but all corrupt powers. He is an example for us all.
we should try and find this him - In the mean time also find a way to celebrate his bravery

because even though China has come a long way what have they done for their people?
They own our debt and have increased their treasure, yet the majority of workers are not allowed to unionize, working for 14/7 for .49 cents an hour, most in terrible conditions with no safety or environmental regulations, no health care, and no free education which few can afford, with all their hard work the wealth is horded by a few elite individuals - sound familiar?
Yes, it can get worse in the US.
And these lack of regulation and care for the people who are bailing us out with poor standards are now sending us those same products that are poising and killing them.
There are no excuses.
Americans can have anything they want they just don't seem to want much of anything.
I feel so sorry for the Chinese people sometimes, but surely there has to be a way they can know the truth, even if China shuts down all the computers and cell phones.
Here when we are being told by the government that, for example, a preemptive strike is justified due to all the WMDs that were found, at least there are ways to the truth, even if it takes an election cycle to do it. The poor Chinese people don't even have THAT option.
"Whilst everyone else scampered for cover, tankman - a man who'd been going about his grocery shopping, fed up with the oppression he'd witnessed, singlehandedly and with no care for his life or personal safety defiantly blocked a column of tanks from going about their ghastly business - his grocery bags still in hand! He seemed to declare, "Enough is enough!"
At least that's how I like to think about.

After seeing this picture, I now really think that this is what happened to tankman... It would be a warning to the west to never try this again.

The stance is nearly exactly the same, as are the facial features.
Thanks for bringing back memories of going to that exhibition, now I need a barf bag all over again. You're theory isn't that far off though, though they assured the media all those in the exhibition were ethically begotten, those they experimented on, weren't. If not this guy, certainly could ring true for others.
