Wall Street Journal:

WASHINGTON -- While Judge Sonia Sotomayor stands in the liberal mainstream on many issues, her record suggests that the Supreme Court nominee could sometimes rule with the top court's conservatives on questions of criminal justice.

These right wing organizations could not make the case against the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor in a frontal attack !

So now their new tactic is to undermine her by giving criticism with a different spin, but with no less of the enthusiasm to undermine her,

Now the new tactic is making her look less than desirable to liberal ideals and sensativities, trying to undermine the support if not at least make them uncertain about her credentials for liberal causes.

They seem intent to scuttle her nomination !!

Good I am glad to know she will be on the court- We need leadership and Judgement in the World
The Bush Admin left enough BS that will need this court to settle- Title 1001 false claims for war-

I've posted this before but it's so true ---Haven't you figured it out yet-President Obama is a politician, a very smart politician-He isn't going to give the left everything they want because he wants to be reelected-He will do a lot of things to keep the moderates happy so he won't lose their vote-if your a liberal(which I'm not) you really don't have anyone else to vote for-unless your willing to vote for a republican or throw away your vote on some 3rd party.

this really worries me.
The case, Didden v. Village of Port Chester, involves seizure of condemned property that was transferred to a developer for “redevelopment” for “public use.” Sotomayor was on the appeals court that upheld the decision, in part based on a Supreme Court ruling in which the city of New London, Connecticut seized private property and turned it over to developers with the argument that redeveloped property would increase tax revenues and create jobs.
Sotomayor was part of a panel on the Second Circuit US Court of Appeals that upheld the Didden ruling and referred to the New London case in upholding the decision allowing the Village to seize the condemned property.

I'm going to laugh my butt off when Sodomayor overturns Roe v. Wade!!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:57 AM on 06/05/2009

I will too, If Roe v Wade is ever overturned, It would completly change the republican party. All the pro-lifers would become democrats.

I agree. I wonder if the pro-choice Democrats are willing to take the chance with this nominee. If she is more likely to judge in favor of the fetus' right to live, it will be amazing irony. Pres. George H. W. Bush appointed Souter believing him to be a strong conservative, only to see his rulings to be more liberal. Wouldn't it be amazing if his replacement would be a supposed liberal who rules more conservatively!

Obama is not governing as a centrist.

Check out the unaccounted for billions to banks.

Workers have to sign away everything to keep a job.

What is centrist about that?

It is so far to the right ....saying the word will get you banned in a NY minute here.

Once again Obama , in the guise of bipartisanship, carries on bush's policies and ideology.

One term president. Third party to represent US yesterday.

But this country is hurting...our current laws and policies serve corporations and banks only.

Max Baucus's utter disdain for single payer health care is a good case in point.

President Obama has said he wanted a Supreme Court nominee with empathy. Empathy, the ability to put oneself in another person’s place, is not the emotion sympathy or sorrow (save that for the funeral). Why we need empathy in the Supreme Court of the United States is that in this country, the defendant or accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law or a judicial decision is made. To presume innocence is to be empathetic and is at the core of the ethical judgment and impartiality of the court. To have the presumption of innocence is to be empathetic. Empathy is what made Solomon wise, and it is not something to be sorry that our Supreme Court Justices possess.

I am amazed at the comments here that REFUSE to see this nominee for what she is. There is a clear picture emerging on her record and you are not paying attention. This woman is NOT a progressive folks. Forget about her eth-nicity and concentrate on the record.

Your reaction is over the top and off-base. I don't believe anyone, including the president, every thought she was a progressive. I don't recall anyone, including the president, calling her a progressive.

Second, unless you have reviewed every case, understand the legal basis for her rulings, reviewed the 76 page document that was issued yesterday and interviewed her personally, how can reach a conclusion about this Judge's record?

Finally, I don't want a progressive on the SC. For some reason, you assume every liberal, every Democrat and everyone supporting the Judge wants a progressive. Speak for yourself, but please get informed and educated before you speak (post).

You sound like you are on the administrations payroll. I notice that you chime in every time anyone disagrees with BO. You are the one who is not informed. How can you claim to speak for what every Dem or liberal wants? I think it's safe to assume that what they don't want is someone who may tilt the court further to the right. If they do they are not liberal or Democrats.

Too many are so caught up in being against the "Right" that the most important issues are being pushed to the wayside or being completely ignored all together. She wouldn't be my choice.

actually this article makes a compelling for why she should be supported by conservatives. It's liberals and progressives that should be concerned with Sot-omayor. But we are so caught up with defending the admin against the right wing cooks that we don't want to take the time to look at this nominees record. I think MOST democrats will be grossly disappointed with her in the end. Also, you should realize that the dem party/ administrtation has operatives posting propaganda here to offset any dissent. That is a fact!

I'm looking forward to the hearing on her nomination, but don't expect anything revelatory to come out.

At this point, we can just have a wait and see attitude. Certainly, though, Sotomayor has never made a ruling that shook up precedent in her entire career at either the District or Appeals court levels and my personal expectation that she will do so on the SC is very low indeed. We'll just have to wait and see.
