US Soldier In Iraq Killed By Grenade
BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier was killed in a grenade attack in northern Iraq.
A statement says the Multi-National Division _ North soldier died Thursday from injuries sustained while on patrol in the province that includes the disputed city of Kirkuk.
Kirkuk is the center of Iraq's oil production in the north. It is contested between its Kurdish and Arab populations, and has been the site of several recent attacks.
The death raises to at least 4,309 members of the U.S. military who have died in Iraq since the war started in March 2003. That's according to an Associated Press count.
