BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier was killed in a grenade attack in northern Iraq.

A statement says the Multi-National Division _ North soldier died Thursday from injuries sustained while on patrol in the province that includes the disputed city of Kirkuk.

Kirkuk is the center of Iraq's oil production in the north. It is contested between its Kurdish and Arab populations, and has been the site of several recent attacks.

The death raises to at least 4,309 members of the U.S. military who have died in Iraq since the war started in March 2003. That's according to an Associated Press count.

This war was way too expensive when the 1st GI died in '03 & W was POTUS. WTF is Obama's excuse for these dead GI's since he took office on 1/20/09? JMFC, Pres Obama has had over 100 days in office. End the Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan things--NOW. Pull out before our GI's become captives of our foes. Our foes WILL torture the GIs as revenge for the USA's use of torture when W was POTUS & the Yemani who just killed himself at Gitmo. Releasing the photos of Americans torturing our captives can't make the tortures & the deaths of our troops when they are captured more wretched & needless.

This story should be front and center of every news outlet, as should each and every death of our military men and women losing their lives in this senseless war.

Obama has no intention of leaving Iraq.
He has lied about his withdrawal schedule.
16 months is now 23 and it will grow.
He is the liar in chief now.

Banned, do you work in the Pentagon or are you on the President's staff. Please give us some reference of your knowledge or your words are no better than Cheney's. I am not afraid that we won't leave Iraq, I am more concerned with Afghanistan and Pakistan. Cheney and Bush opened Pandora's box when they committed us to the war in Iraq, built on lies, so don't pawn this all off on Obama. Bush had six years to get us out...I think we can give Obama a little more time than 120 days. The only way to end this war is to reinstate the draft...people in this country will then have to decide what they are really committed to. Wars are easy if you think you will never have to go. 65% of Americans ASKED for this war, the rest of us got dragged into it and called Pinkos to boot, because we opposed it. My son is serving there now and believes in his mission there. He is already slated to go to Afghanistan in three years after his unit returns. Getting into wars is easy as I said, pulling out is a whole other story. This will always be Bush/Cheney's SHAME to live with no matter how many Presidents it takes to get us out. Their's was a war of CHOICE.
