Kevin Stevenson, a Republican spokesperson from Wisconsin who was booted from his job after criticizing Rush Limbaugh, went on MSNBC Friday to discuss his fall from GOP grace.

"I've been writing commentaries for the "Daily Herald" since October of 2008 for the election. And I wrote a commentary that included Rush Limbaugh, mentioning that we as Republicans need to start coming together," said Stevenson, former spokesman for the Marathon County Republicans. "And it's my opinion that Rush has a very large audience and can be influential, but he is not the leader of the party and he is an entertainer. And he needs to be considered as an entertainer."

Stevenson said the proposal to eliminate his position from a group of county party members "was a surprise to everybody."

"[T]hey didn't like what I said about Rush, and they had tied that into some other things and it basically came up that, well, you're a moderate. Yes, I am a Republican who has moderate views on social issues. And they said, we can't allow that. You can't write for us if you're not with us."

So how does Stevenson feel about the Republican party now? At first he called himself an "invalid Republican," then modified: "I'm an inactive member of the Republican party of Marathon County ... I'm inactive now." But as far as his beliefs, he said, "I am still a Republican.

Do those who posted on this article truly believe the Republicans are EVER "going away" permanently? That's about as dumb as one can be if one believes that. The majority of the American people are loyal to basically two things: money and more money. And that is true of the overwhelming majority of adults in the U.S. whether they be Demo, Repub, Other,etc.... AND whether they want to admit it or not. If economic times don't make a significant upturn before President Obama's term is concluded you can bet your ass that the Demo party will pay for it with , party defections and no re-election in `12 for President Obama. I personally hope President Obama succeeds in bringing prosperity and peace to the United States. Regardless of anyone's political affiliation, it's what's best for the ENTIRE nation's interests that I'm concerned with. To think that the American voter will not turn against a party they once supported is naive. Bush's term is what has caused the massive unpopularity of the GOP currently. Don't think for a second that it couldn't happen to Obama.

There's also that too, but don't forget about the maniacal ramblings of some of the most vile Reps. spewing hatred and divisiveness.

No, we are all aware the tides can turn. But unless Obama does something like $crew his secretary or start a war in another country for profit I'm pretty sure things will stay the course. The republicans will not go away, but their power will be severely reduced. However, it could be a big gain for the independent party. Republicans will then be regaled to the nether regions of politics.

It is difficult to have any respect for anyone who would be chastised by a group for speaking their mind but still claim to be a member and believer of that party's doctrine.

The fact is the Republicans can't really identify with anything that isn't extreme and hateful as that has been their platform for years now and the rule of law doesn't apply to them as they are pure and above the laws of the land.

The plain truth is the only people who could logically support this group and their dogma are those too feeble minded to comprehend what the organization is all about.

Our nation is a worse place because of the neo-cons.

People of reason and compassion can only hope that this GOP continues to dwindle in numbers until they become completely irrelevant. Perhaps, when they shrink to a core number that is small enough, it will be possible to start a third party, one that is not dominated by right-wing extremists. I think we are better off with at least two serious political parties.

The Republican Party certainly is eating its own as they bow down to the almighty Rush. Delightful to watch as they steadily shrink in size. With this game plan they'll go the way of the Whigs in the mid-nineteenth century. I think it is incomprehensible as a group they're allowing Rush to high jack the party but I'd be the last person to stand in their way and can only cheer them on as they all drive off the cliff.

Gotta love the headline!!......I'm sure with all the criticism aimed at Limbaugh....... little Kevin Stevenson of the "Daily Herald" just had to be silenced.

Pretty soon the repubs will have to push for letting illegal aliens vote, just to have someone in their party.
