Kevin Stevenson On Losing GOP Post After Criticizing Limbaugh (VIDEO)

Kevin Stevenson, a Republican spokesperson from Wisconsin who was booted from his job after criticizing Rush Limbaugh, went on MSNBC Friday to discuss his fall from GOP grace.

"I've been writing commentaries for the "Daily Herald" since October of 2008 for the election. And I wrote a commentary that included Rush Limbaugh, mentioning that we as Republicans need to start coming together," said Stevenson, former spokesman for the Marathon County Republicans. "And it's my opinion that Rush has a very large audience and can be influential, but he is not the leader of the party and he is an entertainer. And he needs to be considered as an entertainer."

Stevenson said the proposal to eliminate his position from a group of county party members "was a surprise to everybody."

"[T]hey didn't like what I said about Rush, and they had tied that into some other things and it basically came up that, well, you're a moderate. Yes, I am a Republican who has moderate views on social issues. And they said, we can't allow that. You can't write for us if you're not with us."

So how does Stevenson feel about the Republican party now? At first he called himself an "invalid Republican," then modified: "I'm an inactive member of the Republican party of Marathon County ... I'm inactive now." But as far as his beliefs, he said, "I am still a Republican.

Why have the Dems seemed to have stopped talking about labeling Limbaugh as the head of the GOP? That was working very well right after the inauguration and now they seem to have stopped?

This is just another example of how small the Republican party has become in that they refuse to tolerate any kind of dissention or differing opinions among the ranks.Rush Limbaugh represents the nut case far right wing of the party and he's destroying what's left of the Republican Party every day he goes on the air and rants and raves and lies. If I were a Republican, I'd tell the ole fat boy to shut up and get in line with moderate Republicans or lose the next election. He wouldn't listen because he's all about himself, his money and his ratings. If I didn't know better, I'd say ole Rushie has become a democrat the way he's helping the Democratic Party.

It is east to jump to conclusion and pigeonhole Mr. Stevenson and Republicans into a one-dimensional category. Yes I cannot stand Republicans in general but there are some of them trying to make the party more moderate. That was one respectable thing Eric Cantor and Mitt Romney tried to start at the pizza gathering before Rush brow beat them down.

Rachel Maddow that we need a two party system. So I also agree with the first comment posted here: "We need a new party centered around Kevin Stevenson's moderation­." The Republican Party he and many others joined is not the same party anymore. Maybe he and Meghan McCain should get together and form something that neuters the current GOP once and for all.

What happened to Kevin Stevenson, Michael Steele and others is clear evidence of the existence of fascistic ideology in the far right of the Republican Party.

A two Party system helps to ensure ongoing checks and balances in our political system. But unless and until the Republicans cleanse themselves of thugs like Limbaugh and his followers they will be forever relegated to a teeny-tiny region of the south.

Mr. Stevenson your probably an independent, you have just not realized it. I don't know what was so harmful about what you stated. Rush has something on these rep. I don't know what but they seem like they will bite your leg off if you go against this guy but since I can I'm going to say this one more time, he may have 20million listners but it wasn't enough to win hi party a presidential election and I'm going to say why they won't get another seat for a looooong time because everytime this man opens his mouth he looses more people in his party. How do I know I have co-workers who have stated their tired of his mouth and probably will coninue to vote dem, all nine of them are rep. They are fed up.
