ALL political rhetoric aside -- this was a wonderful moment. This young lady probably never cared one way or the other about the politics of this war; she was just happy to see her daddy. Good for her!

I hope we can have tens of thousands more reunions like this by August of 2010 when we finally end our combat operations in Iraq completely.

heart-warming story...

Our guy did his 15 months in Iraq with medals. His wife is having their first baby in June and then he ships out for
Afghanistan. If Bush had done this 6 years ago, our guy would be home raising his family by now.

...and how many Iraqi children this dad has "surprised' during his time in Iraq??

Way to be ignorant- you don't even know what he was deployed for.

It's the highest noncom rank one can attain from Airman

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:56 PM on 06/05/2009

No, they can obtain Senior Master Sergeant and Chief Master Sergeant. Non-Com can get up to 8 stripes in the USAF.

First of all I am glad to see her father made it home safe, the surprise and joy in her face brought tears to my eyes.
Second isn't this an all volunteer armed forces.
Most of the men and woman serving don't have much of a choice at this point, on where they are deployed.
I would like to see all of our men and woman come home from Iraq with a heart warm welcome as this man did.
I would also like to see all of our troops pulled out of the European countries, Japan and also, S. Korea.
But that will probably never happen.
God Bless all of those who serve and THANK-YOU.

The stress kids must go through because their parent(s) are in a war zone for a year must be incredible. The look on that child's face brought it home for me, kids need their dads, dads need their kids.

Bu$h/Cheney started a war for revenge and money, and all of America continues to suffer because of it.

I would like to see thousands of these videos from our returning troops' families.....NOW.

...and their moms! Mothers are over there too. If you want to see this more often, visit any military base welcoming home our troops. It doesn't matter how many you see, you'll still cry, especially when the new dads see their babies for the first time.

Nice to see the media was there to exploit the personal moment.

Screw you. You're the type who always complains that "there's never any good news out there" then you see this and you get all cynical. Yuk. You're yucky. (I just threw up a little in my mouth.)

Yes, I was wondering the same thing... how exactly was the media tipped in on this. Who was responsible for orchestrating this?

I want to take nothing away from the girl and her dad, but all of us need to question what we're fed from the media, regardless of political views.

rroo. You are very jaded and I too threw up in my mouth reading your comment. actually, I didn't but I feel very sorry for you after reading your reaction. I'm tearing up for the simple fact of seeing a girl reunited with her father who has been away (in danger) for a year.
seriously, if you think that is some kind of propoganda just who the hell do you think it would be helping out?

with you 100%.

Kinda tacky to set the girl up for a nice moment on TV, isn't it?

Speaking as a veteran, I hope her father didn't volunteer to be away from his family. I did my time before I had children. This war has really screwed a lot of reserve "weekend warriors" who never dreamed they'd get placed on active duty like they have. The reserve people took the place of the draft. It was always my understanding that the National Guard was suppose to protect us at home. That poor child has been traumatized, and her reaction shows how much it was hurting her. However, she is luckier than those returning, in a casket, to their children. Nothing, in my opinion, happening in Iraq or anywhere else is worth dying for, or more important than your children.

I find it criminal that we send the National Guard off to fight foreign wars. That's what the reserve is for.

REally? I can think of no one greater than I could die for than my children...funny how you could look at serving as 'self-serving' instead of for others, including your own children.

Where in this series of posts did anyone write 'self-serving'?
It's not fair to criticize anyone for what you think he thinks.

Well, he's a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, which means he probably has at least 12 if not 15 years in (maybe more), and his daughter is 10, which means he was almost certainly in uniform long before she was born... 'course they could still have older children. In any case, many of us started families AFTER we joined, knowing full well we could be sent away from them at any moment. I think I ghet your point, but your comment about "volunteering to be away from his family" is a little misguided. None of us wanted to be away from family, but when you sign up you do so knowing that goes with the territory.

George Bush and Dick Cheney did this, and obviously much worse for those whose parents are not coming home alive.

Maybe that should be why the GOP disappears.

This brought a few tears to my eyes as well. I go through this every 4 or 5 weeks when I can get home to my 11 yo daughter - so it really hit home. And it never gets easier.
