Patti Blagojevich called on a lesson learned from one her husband's political campaigns to help fellow jungle dweller on "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!" Thursday.
When John Salley grew frustrated with irritable former model Janice Dickinson, Patti offered counsel:
"My husband had this campaign where he was running against this woman who was a little bit like her," Patti told Salley. "And he thought of her as, as like a crazy old aunt. That he had to kind of like suffer and kind of like, and kind of just like, roll your eyes at. Like she's the kooky old aunt. You had to be respectful to her because she's your old aunt."
Patti's husband, impeached former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, confirmed Friday that Patti was referring to Republican Judy Baar Topinka, who lost a bitter gubernatorial campaign to Blagojevich in 2006.
Topinka, a socially moderate former State Treasurer whose dyed red hair and thrift store wardrobe was a stark contrast to the polished Blagojevich, is most often described as "colorful" rather than kooky, as the Sun-Times' Paige Wiser notes.
On Friday Topinka lashed out at Blagojevich and "his tarantula-eating wife" on WLS Radio's "Don Wade and Roma Morning Show."
"They are shameless," Topinka, who called herself 'that kooky old aunt [who] had three terms in the treasurer's office and never misplaced a dollar," said. "They certainly have no respect for the system."
Of Patti Blagojevich, Topinka said, "This is the same gal with the potty mouth who was yelling on one of the [federal wiretap] transcripts. I mean who is this woman? Suddenly she's playing Martha Washington?"
