***UPDATED June 6*** Fox News host Bill O'Reilly was forced to apologize to CNN after anchor Rick Sanchez slammed O'Reilly for claiming that CNN didn't cover the murder of Army recruiter William Long at all during the day, instead waiting until Anderson Cooper's late night show to give it coverage. O'Reilly issued his apology to the news network after saying some "snide and surly guy on CNN" (Sanchez) pointed out that they had covered the story far more extensively than O'Reilly implied. CNN's Rick Sanchez slammed Bill O'Reilly Friday afternoon for his claim that CNN didn't cover the murder of Army recruiter William Long until Anderson Cooper's featured the story on "AC360."

"CNN is supposed to be the news channel," O'Reilly said to Editor & Publisher's Joe Strupp. "CNN says we don't do opinion, we do news. Only Anderson Cooper at 10:00 covered this story. Nobody else! All day long it wasn't news to cover an army recruiter gunned down in Arkansas?"

Sanchez then proceeded to play a "Daily Show"-like montage of clips of CNN anchors and reporters discussing the story all day.

"Let's see, that was Kyra Phillips, Tony Harris, Heidi Collins, Lou Dobbs, certainly you saw myself, you just saw David Mattingly there, Wolf Blitzer, we saw Kiran Chetry, we saw Erica Hill — that's nobody?" Sanchez asked.

"Let's add this up together now," Sanchez said. "We led with the story when it broke. We led with it again the next day. We analyzed the terrorism angle with experts and called former FBI agents to take us through it. And as a network, we covered the story umpteen times throughout the days, throughout all hours of those days. But Bill O'Reilly says he only saw it once. And since he only saw it once, well then that must be the truth. It doesn't matter what really happened. It doesn't matter what the record shows. All that matters is what Bill thinks he saw. We called Fox today, by the way. No response yet."

Sanchez ended with a comment on O'Reilly calling CNN the "news channel."

"O'Reilly did get one thing right," he said. "We here at CNN do say we're in the business of doing news. You know why? Because we are. And while we are far from perfect, we do check our facts before we say things. And if we get it wrong, we say so. And that is called reporting."

Really, weatherman? If OhReally spent half as much time doing research as he does bloviating, Media Matters wouldn't be so busy documenting his many Malaprop-ridden 'reports': http://mediamatters.org/search/tag/bill_o_reilly ..more like "Da Win.dbag", it seems..! ;) ...

Bill O'Reilly calling somebody else "snide" and "surly"????? Good grief...I suppose it would be futile to say its a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

And Sanchez was not surly or snide. He just sounded annoyed at Bill-o's latest flight from reality.

As always, truth and honesty are concepts that don't exist in his virtual reality.

Bill doesnt know what a mistake is. In his mind, these are just left wing attackers, jealous of his success. I wonder if he punched a hole in his wall after seeing this....

O' REALLY - Bill's nickname for good reason. And his boss Murdoch is whining today something about Obama being a danger to the country. In Murdoch and O'Reilly's world "Thou Shall Not Bear False Witness" is for everyone except themselves.

Look me up in 10 years so I can say I told you so. The Republican Party will be non-existent. You fringe guys will be on the sidelines whining but with no power. The other 90% will be getting along just fine.

Bravo for calling-out that clown, O'Reilly. CNN is far from perfect, they often give rightwingers the stage, w/out anyone on to rebut, but at least they attempt to get the news portions correct. Faux "News" makes it up as they go along. They run stunners, with a banner below the screen lying about a Democrat.

When will Rick Sanchez have a program on CNN during prime-time?

I bet he'll do a way better job than Campbell Brown.
CNN needs someone gutsy like Sanchez during its prime-time. If they want to increase their ratings, they should seriously consider it.

Love Rick Sanchez....He is a great journalist. Glad he ripped into Bill O'Reilly...

No, if they want to raise the ratings....they need to report the real news, like unemployment skyrocketing, number of homeless increasing, gas and food prices rising, if they would report that instead of kissing up to Obama then maybe their ratings would go up...then and only then will it happen!

Of course O'Reilly lies, and when called on it he continues to spew his venomous hatred. He's not paid $10 million a year to be happy and truthful.

When news channels spend "valuable" air time arguing with each other instead of reporting the news, you know they are not serious news providers, but rather are just editorial ideologists.

If I were an advertiser paying tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars for a few minutes worth of advertising, and I watched these dopey anchors wasting even 30 seconds of News time arguing ON THE AIR over who scooped whom or who is Mo Betta, I'd yank my advertising instantaneously.

The biggest news is that one of the major American "news" channels spends most of the day spewing Republican propaganda instead of reporting.

Notice how Billo doesn't refer to his critics directly by name? He never called Keith Olbermann by name, and he referred to Rick Sanchez as a "surly" reporter.

By the way, Sanchez's coverage of the story in question wasn't exactly fair and balanced either. Almost immediately he started exploring the terrorism angle because the shooter was a "recent convert" to Islam.

I just figured out why the POTUS's new pup has the name "BO" it's President Obama's initials.. It's Bill-O's ... both bark loudly without saying anything coherent, they live lavishly yet have no sense of responsibility to their "adoring fans" and serve no critical purpose other than to entertain and comfort 'child-like' sensibilities.

no i take that back .. the 1st pooch's mouth isn't nearly as destructive as Bill "Orly?" ... maybe he chews up a shoe now and then... but he doesn't lie about it.
