Actors have to grow beards for roles sometimes. Otherwise, I think men mostly grow beards to impress each other because I'm not really that impressed by sharp whisker hairs. They hurt my delicate face when I hug a bearded man sometimes. I have a few black male friends who wish they could grow that much beard and then there's my white males friends wish they wouldn't have to shave everyday and they think the smooth faced black dudes are lucky. Nobody's ever happy with what they have. lol

The only one who really looks hot with hair on his face is Ryan Reynolds. Heteros might feel differently and certainly hetero men. But for any of them, better a stache and goatee than a shaved crotch!

IMO, everyone pictured should shave the facial hair except for Brad and Jake. BTW, saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button last night and thought the senior Brad looked more distinguished than the middle age and young Brad Pitt. Prince William looks like merde with a beard.

How can you comment on actors when they grow facial hair for a role? That is blatantly unfair to the man. And it really comes down to whether you prefer men with beards or not. Most of these guys look good with the whiskers, but Phoenix is just out of his mind. And if Mel Gibson is not doing this for a role, then he should at least get a call from Kentucky Fried Chicken to do some ads.

My biggest complaint is this: If you can't grow a beard, don't. If you can't grow a moustache, don't grow a beard, unless you're Amish. If you want to grow a goatee, find a time machine and go back to the 90s. And try a little grooming. If you want to look like a caveman, stay out of the public.

The only beards I've seen that improve appearance have been on men with weak chins.

Since the first time I noticed Hugh Jackman he was in his Wolverine persona, I guess I'm used to seeing him with odd facial hair. I will say that I didn't much care for the hairdo he had for "Van Helsing" a few years ago. (At least he had a sense of humor about it--made some funny comments while he was on the talk shows promoting the movie.)

On the other hand, Mel Gibson's facial hair reminds me of Snidely Whiplash from the very-much missed Rocky and Bullwinkle show!

Gwyneth Paltrow left Brad Pitt for Ben Affleck. I agree, there is something sexier with Ben than Brad. Not just the big feet and long legs either.
