I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni were dressed in similar ensembles as they joined their husbands at the 65th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy on Saturday.

Michelle Obama donned a bright white dress and 3/4 sleeve jacket, paired with a silver belt and open metallic kitten heels.

Carla Bruni wore a cream cap-sleeved dress with a black belt and black kitten heels.

Michelle, What is with the belts? you have a dynamite figure and they detract from all of your clothes.

As far as looks and style go, Michelle is no Carla Bruni.

"Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni were dressed in similar ensembles"
Similar? Really?

I am really surprised that this unexplainable desire of american media to compare these two women on the basis of their fashion choices never stops. It is not possible to compare Haute Couture even to Prêt-à-porter. Any attempt in comparing it to confection is a complete lunacy. Regardless of who is wearing it. Even if it is on a dress form. The difference in quality, commercial value and availability is vast. it is like comparing a Porsche to a Tata Nano. Carla Bruni wears Haute Couture since she was born. Here in Europe, we call this cultural and social model "Noblesse oblige". Your first lady wears confection. It is her own choice, she does it well and with this choice she makes a kind of statement she wants to make. Leave it at that. Talk charm, talk charisma, talk presence and she is a champ. But with this ridiculous attempts to compare a ca. 1500$ set to a ca. 5000$ Chanel dress you can only humiliate her.

I wonder why anyone cares what these people wear?

it's a matter of choice, what you care about. don't judge. if it is not a judgment, but really a question, i can tell you why i care. i have a great respect for fashion as a human activity. it is creative, competitive, powerful, inspirative, meaningfull, expressive, unagressive, challenging, individual for both the creator and the customer. and it's fun.
and my bad, it's a dior, not a chanel ;)

"We've come a long way baby" as the old saying used to go. Remember the old Virginia Slims commercials for women?

So here's a question Why do they keep trying to project these two in photos as rivals or comparisons? Not with Gordon Brown's wife or any other wife just Carla Bruni. Wasn't Bruni a model or something prior? While Mrs. Obama a Princeton grad, lawyer etc etc.......I hardly think Mrs. Obama needs to try and compete in "Nicest outfits" category.

To discuss fashion at the solemn remembrance gathering of D-Day where countless brave US Soldier's gave their lives is not only shameful, but truly typical of the mindset here at H P.

I think it is something along the lines of the French fashionista versus the new First Lady of Style sort of angle the media is touting. Hoping to sell more magazines, clothes, etc.

Somehow the phrase "pick of the litter" springs to mind seeing Ms. Bruni in those photos.

Thanks for actually approving a comment of mine, O Keepers Of The Comment Sections.

Here's what happened: Michelle confirmed with Carla the night before that she would wear white & Carla would wear purple. When Carla showed up wearing almost the same outfit as Michelle, Michelle was like totally p.o.'d. However, later on when they went to the bathroom to hash things out, Carla told her that all of her outfits were at the cleaners except the white ones. After many tears, and "you're my BFFs," they were like totally cool and they would just pretend that they were playing "twins."

Oh, I'm sorry, that's what my daughter was telling me about her two friends in junior high.

I like both ladies but Carla looks better at this event. But she is tall and weights like 90lbs so I guess anything would look good on her.

That's kind of what they hope you would see. These women are not being paraded out ala beauty pageant. Mrs. Obama is a Princeton grad, lawyer, business exec etc. Bruni is an ex-model or something. I think we have come a long way to have to resort to superficial comparisons.

Such beautiful classy women. It looks like they are becoming fast friends. Same with Sarah Brown who the 1st Lady and the girls visited in London.

I am glad that all of them are finding someone who can share the burdens of the limelight with them.
