Bret Michaels Knocked Down, Injured During Tonys (VIDEO)

NEW YORK -- Bret Michaels ran into some scenery at the Tony Awards.

Michaels, star of the reality show "Rock of Love," took to the stage with his hair-metal band Poison during the telecast's opening production number, featuring performances from the season's Broadway musicals.

They performed "Nothin' But a Good Time" with the cast of "Rock of Ages," and as Michaels exited the stage, a descending set piece smacked him on the head and knocked him _ splat! _ to the ground.

Tonys spokeswoman Christina Stejskal says the rocker "missed his mark." Though it looked it, he did not break his nose. Stejskal did not immediately know the extent of his injury.

"Rock of Ages" celebrates 1980s hair music and features songs by Journey and other bands. It stars Constantine Maroulis as an aspiring rock star.

First of all Michaels is only two years younger than me and I just got over my mid-life crisis to accept the fact that I'm closer to 50 than 40. I was contemplating whether to go out and buy some running shoes today and after seeing a "senior citizen" comment, this "old coot" will be buying those shoes today. The next time any of you are in DC and you see a silver streak on one of the high school tracks those of you who made the "senior citizen" comment will have eat your words. Now I will not be the silver streak flying around the track, but the other guy trying to eek out one more lap because you see, I've got a bum knee, my achilles tendon is worn, my wind isn't what it used to be, I haven't worked out in a while.....­.....

I don't think it's nice to make fun of a senior citizen as some of you are doing. Mr. Michaels probably can't get around as well as he used to. I do hope the sweet old darling wasn't hurt too badly.

I could be wrong, but it seemed to me that the song they played was recorded as well. I noticed several times when the band members moved closer together that there was no change in the vocals. Might be an indication that Bret didn't rehearse enough. Also NPH's line about Bret "taking the stage" was classic!

It "seemed" recorded? Are you kidding me? Michaels had the microphone practically in his mouth while he "sang"! Why was it prerecorde­d...other musical segments were live.


I saw his exit as well and the audience was making so much noise as a result of it that when Stockard Channing started to sing it was hard to hear her.

Overall this was a great show...rea­lly long...but very entertaining. I hope Michaels is OK.
