New Orleans Mayor Quarantined In China: Ray Nagin And His Wife Were On Plane With Passenger Showing Flu-Like Symptoms

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and his wife have been quarantined in China after a passenger on their flight exhibited flu-like symptoms.

Nagin's office said Sunday the couple and a security guard were quarantined at a hotel in Shanghai as a precaution and were exhibiting no swine flu symptoms.

His office says a passenger had "signs and symptoms of an influenza-like illness suspected to be of the H1N1 subtype." Spokeswoman Ceeon Quiett says people sitting near that passenger on the flight from Newark, N.J., were quarantined. There was no word on what flight it was or how many people were aboard.

Quiett said Nagin and his wife have not been tested for swine flu.

Nagin left Friday for an economic development trip.

Thank God. I think they probably quarantined him because he is Ray Nagin. I only wish he would have been quaratined about four years ago. The ninth ward STILL looks like a bomb went off yesterday Ray...why are you not out there still blaming other people like you did after Katrina? Huh?!?!

Actually leaving Mayor Nagin in Shanghai was a deliberate act of revenge by the good citizens of New Orleans for all the substandard drywall China shipped to us after Katrina. When I first heard this story, I couldn't stop laughing. Fair is Fair.

(BTW_ this DOES not mean that I want him or his family to get the Swine Flu. But its nice to see a lameduck politician be inconveninced like the rest of us.)

I'm from NO and have mixed feelings about Nagin. He hasn't been a very good mayor but he hasn't been a very bad one either. He is more gaff prone than Joe Biden after a Vicadin and 2 martinis. He has over promised and under delivered.

The silver lining in this story to me is that even though he is taking his family on these Economic Development Vacations, err... trips (including one to Jamaica 3 months after Katrina) he is fly commercial instead of taking private jets.
