Already in the national spotlight for his troubled marriage, Jon Gosselin is facing yet another controversy: allegations of animal abuse.

The Jon & Kate Plus 8 star told PEOPLE recently that his German Shepherd pups, Shoka and Nala, are often mishandled by his young children. "Those kids beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around and everything you can imagine not to do to an animal, they've done," he said.

Oh please, with all the Puppy Mills in PA and the thousands of truly tortured dogs there, they have nothing better to do that go after this guy?

I work at the humane society, we are not going after Jon, there was a statement on our website from Jon clarifying what he meant in the article to prevent newspapers from exaggerrating the story like this article has.

So, why the picture with the cat? And what exactly is happening to the cat? Is it being put in an outside open cage on a cold night? Is the Gosselin guy doing this? I've never seen the show.

That's one of the German Shepard pups.

But why are they putting them in cages when they own ...-how- many acres of land and a huge house?

Any vet will tell you that it is better to leave a pup in it's cage when you leave it home alone. They feel more secure and don't wander around the house eating the furniture.

Aren't their plenty of animals that are actually being abused that the humane society and these animal rights activists can go after? I mean children rough housing with a dog is hardly animal abuse.

This is getting crazier and crazier. Those dogs are not being abused. People need to leave this family alone. Geez, the kids play with the dogs, there not abusing them. It seems like everybody is jumping on them. First the tabloids, then child abuse people, now animal abuse people. Peole are making simething out of nothing.

If they want to be left alone.................easy enough! Don't do the show. Their choice.

How do you know they are not being abused?

J&K treat their kids like they are assets to exploit, not children. This blatant lack of conideration for their children would be very easily learned by their chlldren.

THat entire situation is out of control. Something has to change, and soon, before something truly tragic happens.

I agree with the poster below!

How do YOU know those precious dogs are NOT being abused???

When children "play" roughly with dogs - especially young dogs - it HURTS!!

Pulling tails; hitting them; dragging them around; pulling ears. That's not "play"! That's abuse!

The children may very well be taking out their frustrations on the poor dogs.

I KNEW when those irresponsible parents got those dogs, the poor animals were in for a sad and rough ride.

Dogs have to know a kind and loving "master" - not a crazy, herd of abusive tail-pulling kids and a couple of absent adults who toss them in a crate when they cannot be bothered.

These people make me SICK. And I watched the show when it first started - before J/K went "nutz"!!

But I'm a huge animal advocate and dog rescuer!! Dogs cannot SPEAK and say what's wrong.

And, Shaqfan, no one is "jumping" on J/K! They are bringing it on themselves by being greedy.

Why don't they just go back to their JOBS!! A million and a half dollar house????

Give ME a break!!!!

I have zero use for anyone who mistreats a defenseless animal. What a classless jerk.

I have zero tolerance either for anyone who legitimately mistreats animals, but I'd hardly say that is what it sounds like is going on. They are children playing with a dog, nothing more nothing less. They feed the dog, clean the dog, let it out. This is not animal abuse. They are trumped up charges because they have a TV show. Do you think this would even be an issue if they weren't on TV. Millions of families across the countries have little children who pull cats tails and jump on the family dog. Should we arrest them all and put the pets down when no one comes to adopted them?

Really, I don't hink the kids can be blamed.

We learn our parenting/care-giving skills from our parents. We may make modifications later on in life, but our basic instincts for caregiving are learned from our parents.

The kids have been dehumanized by their parents, and are treated as exploitable resources. When all a child experiences is lack of consideration of how actions impact them, it's not surprising that is how the kids would approach a child's usual first foray into caregiving--caring for and interacting with a pet.

The safety and treatment of the kids and the dogs should be addressed. Mistreatd dogs can go on to be aggressive, biting dogs. Mistreated kids can go on to be much worse.

I'd love to see this article updated to reflect the fact that although the humane society received complaints about what he said in People, the executive director of the Berks County Human Society, Karel I. Minor, maintains that the organization does not believe the animals are in any danger.

Gosselin also explained his comment to say that he would never allow the children to mistreat the dogs and they are always supervised when they play. "Shoka and Nala are loyal companions who we consider members of our family. We would never do anything to hurt them, and treat them with the respect and love that they deserve."

I didn't... but if that's true, then this headline is completely inaccurate on purpose and should be changed.

Did you see the links at the end of the story? The first one was to an article, "Jon Denies Cheating on Kate."

Jon appears to be quite willing to lie when it serves his best purposes. I question the wisdom of using Jon's statements regarding another alleged incident, cruelty to his dogs, in the light of his previous selfserving and untrue statements about his affair.

Since Kate doesn't seem to be fending herself off from rabid fans I think that her "bodyguard" could use his time better instead as doggyguard.

These dogs are not abused!!! They play with the kids and the kids play with them. People are crazy. What is the right age to a kid to have a pet?? It the kids are young and you get a puppy that all get used to each other! The animals will walk away when they have had enough of play! I grew up (1yr up) with a German Sheppard and a Rottweiler and at 27 have 2 Pitbulls and they have never bit me or anyone else!! I used to (like very young kids) pull their tails and tug on their ears and nothing every happened. Some people are so ridiculous and will nit-pick any little thing!! Go after people who truly abuse their pets!!

I know kids could be very rough with dogs, specially little kids, the problem is that Kate didnt wanted the dogs from the beginning (I dont blame her she has eight kids) well the only one that cares about the dogs is John, did anyone watch Kate's birthday episode, when John, Mady and Kate are at the sofa and it looks like they are about to get into an argument when John mentions the dogs?

Kids play with dogs. Dogs play with kids. Shocking. I didn't see the dogs tied down at any time. They can always walk away. Have any of you seen young dogs rough and tumble on their own. Probably not.. The Humane Society should make better use of the money I give them by protecting animals that are really being treated badly. Get lives please.
