WASHINGTON — Former first lady Laura Bush says she's pleased that President Barack Obama nominated a woman for the Supreme Court.

"I think she sounds like a winner and a good nominee," Bush said of Sonia Sotomayor, the federal appeals judge Obama picked.

Mrs. Bush said in an interview broadcast Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America" that "as a woman, I'm proud that there might be another woman on the court. I wish her well." She was interviewed in Dallas, where the Bushes moved after their White House tenure.

On another subject, Mrs. Bush said her husband will have no comment on any Obama decisions. He feels that as a former president, "he owes President Obama his silence on issues and there's no reason to second-guess any decisions he makes," Mrs. Bush said.

The most graceful and dignified thing Bush has ever done in his role as a public servant turns out to be his silence on his successor's job. Brilliant.

Yah how seriously can you take anything this woman says? But on the other hand this is a nice departure from what the ex vice president and company have been saying. Dignified, formal if a bit shallow, encouraging instead of incessantly nit - picking and negative, and certainly within the role of an ex first family member.

Wow -- I am surprised by the animus expressed for Laura Bush. All she did was keep her mouth shut during her husband's tenure. I think her mission was to distance herself from the racists in the GOP.

I agree, she does look "hardened".

An act of true contrition would soften those hardened lines on her face.

Poor Laura, she thought that Sotomayor had some cocaine that they could snort together.

lolol....I suggest she grab a couple of cartons of ciggs and hold up back in her padded room in the new mansion in Dallas. Goodness knows, Nukular J'arge is probably on some couch somewhere with an empty 12 pack strewn around the floor and a lifetime's supply of pretzels to munch on while watching archived news reruns of his time in office. Poor Laura. Poor, poor Laura.

Why is this news to anyone? Bush NOW thinks there's no reason to speak out or second-guess the commander-in-chief? Sounds awfully close to what he did when Cheney was running thing!
