I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Tony host Neil Patrick Harris had big shoes to fill following past host Hugh Jackman, but he did an admirable job, culminating in an end-of-show song recapping the previous three hours, sung as the credits rolled.

If you missed the show, here is an awards recap (Billy Elliot ruled) and here is video of Bret Michaels missing his mark and getting decked by a stage curtain during a musical number.

Ha ha ha!! That was great and hilarious. N.P.H. is absolutely the man.

Who knew that Doogie would turn out to be such a n uberman in his adulthood?

The vast bulk of 80s child actors turned out horribly.

I guess there's something to be said for going into seclusion, studying your craft, finding yourself and then bringing that fuller, richer self back into the mainstream, rather than trying to continue the same schtick, just in an older body (Joey "Whoah" Lawrence, anyone?).

WOW I would have never believed Doogie could sing. Nice voice though. Maybe he and The chick from Britain should do a duo? That's awful, I've forgotten her name already!

I was amazed when he was able to break his child role type-casting of Doogie (a great show), and get new adult roles. Then I was suprised to see his "coming-out" did not harm his career. Now I am shocked. I had no idea this funny guy could sing.

I love this guy. I had the pleasure of getting to hear him sing almost every night when he played Marc in Rent in San Diego(I worked at the theatre at the time). He does have a great voice and he is the nicest guy.

I was lucky enough to be in the audience for the Tony's this year (last year as well) and thought NPH was FANTASTIC. He came out frequently during commercial breaks to talk to the audience, and even did a few magic tricks that were hilarious. During the last commercial break, NPH came out to ask the audience to stay seated after the final award, saying "we have a little something special that we hope you'll dig." (Ordinarily everyone bolts from their seats the second the acceptance speech is over -- we've all been sitting for four hours at that point!).

As much as I love Hugh Jackman, if someone doesn't sign NPH immediately to host the Oscars they're crazy. He had the audience charmed before the show even began and never lost it -- not even for a second. By the way, the opening number was unbelievable in person -- someone really screwed up the sound for TV -- the entire audience was on their feet instantly at the end. It really set the energy high for the rest of the night. All in all, it was much better than last year's show.

For the record, Whoopi hosted in 2008, in 2007 and 2006 there was no host at all, and Hugh Jackman hosted in 2003, 2004, and 2005.

I didn't watch the show but was blown away by NPH's closing song. He definitely has singing chops and is a great entertainer. Maybe, he'd consider doing a B'way musical someday.

Hugh Jackman hosted the Tonys? I thought it was the Oscars.

Hugh hosted the Tonys once while he was on Broadway in "The Boy From Oz." He was a good host. He almost got Sarah Jessica Parker to dance right out of her gown.

Magnificent! I have not seen him perform as an adult, i.e., post Dougie. I'm a long time theatre and opera goer. His combination of dramatic interpretation and powerful singing voice are amazing - I've never heard anyone better.

Amazing! I loved watching this! I didn't get to see the awards, but now I'm going to find a way. NPH has always been a class act.

I totally loved Neil's closing. I wish the other award shows would use him-they are usually as boring as can be. Neil hit it out of the park. And I did not even know he could sing!
