I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Tony host Neil Patrick Harris had big shoes to fill following past host Hugh Jackman, but he did an admirable job, culminating in an end-of-show song recapping the previous three hours, sung as the credits rolled.

If you missed the show, here is an awards recap (Billy Elliot ruled) and here is video of Bret Michaels missing his mark and getting decked by a stage curtain during a musical number.

The CBS standards and practices department should have censored those lyrics.

I think it was too "gay" for his poor delicate rightwing sensibilities

Liked the bit with the sushi...clearly a dig at Jeremy Piven's mercury poisoning and subsequent need to drop out of Speed-the-Plow. From the reaction shot, some in the audience clearly missed the dig...but it was clever.

I think Tony is way more enjoyable to watch, than Oscars or Emmeys, this time I watched a bit, but from next year, will make sure to watch it all.....
Vote for NPH to host the Oscars !

It's a lot better because they can all of the dopey skits and lame jokes and stick to what everyone does well and loves best - Singing, dancing and acting. I think NPH and Hugh Jackman could just alternate years for hosting the Oscars and the Tonys ... and the producers could quit looking for someone new every year.

I saw him on Broadway in 'Caberet' in 2003. He played the Master of Ceremonies and was fantastic!

Anyone who's seen "Dr. Horrible" knew it.... (It's still up on Hulu, BTW.)

And for more zany NPH singing fun, check out the "Dr. Horrible" DVD with its commentary track, "Commentary! The Musical".... I think I'm enjoying that as much as or more than Dr. H itself.

A little over-hyped in the headline, wouldn't you say? "WOW?" Just makes me think that the writers had to know who won the awards before the show began, which makes the whole event suspect.

Why would it make everything suspect? Clearly the accounting people know, the people who make the statuettes know (after all, they had three for the Billy's), so why not a specific team of writers for the closing number to work with Harris?

At worst, since all the nominees were known, the writers could have come up with a slate of verses to use for each nominee, Harris is a hard worker (I do know him, though he probably doesn't remember me), and with the teleprompter reminding him of what the lyrics are, he could be winging it. The lyric about Lansbury hooking up with Poison backstage seems to have been written after the fact. You'll notice that Harris wasn't present a lot during the show...he could easily have been working with writers during the show.

That's all a guess, but even if it was mostly known beforehand, what's the big deal?

You do realize that Vegas bets on the winners of the Tony awards. A bunch of writers getting to know the winners before anyone else, especially in this day and age of internet leaks, plus all the money that is always spent to "secure" the winners so nobody knows...it makes the whole thing suspect.

So rarely is the question asked: what would NPH do?

Very talented guy! Loved his SNL Doogie skit, and I loved this.
