I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Tony host Neil Patrick Harris had big shoes to fill following past host Hugh Jackman, but he did an admirable job, culminating in an end-of-show song recapping the previous three hours, sung as the credits rolled.

If you missed the show, here is an awards recap (Billy Elliot ruled) and here is video of Bret Michaels missing his mark and getting decked by a stage curtain during a musical number.

Had no interest in NPH previously. Never watched anything he was in. However, I must say that he did an excellent job--totally poised and he has a lovely voice. I'd pay to see him in something decent.

He's a very amusing guy. He was a riot in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog last year.

I thought he pretty much sucked, but someone had to put that last song together in a hurry. I wish I had watched the creative Tonys online, the part they always leave out and used to show on PBS.

Broadway and American Idol 'music' is for people who don't really 'get' REAL music.

You don't get Broadway. Idol has nothiing to do with Broadway. It's like film and stage. The impact on audiences are totally different. See a Broadway show some time and you'll find out.

Never watched either of the stupid TV shows he starred in , but the few minutes I watched him last night he did a really great job.

Handsome, well spoken and talented! Good choice for the Tonys!

Yes, putting something like that together at the last minute or even if it had done prior to the show with some changes here and there was terrific and Harris pulled it off just fine.

In Hawaii we're 6 hours "behind" NYC, and they broadcast the Tonys on "tape delay." Initially I was reading a great live blog here, but had to leave my computer, returning to tv for the "live" [i.e., delayed] broadcast.

Now I can't find that liveblog anywhre here on HuffPo. Does someone have a link?

Neil Patrick Harris WAS phenomenal!!! In addition to his terrific singing voice, I loved his line about William Hyde Pierce "coming out" for the second time. What is it with these three-name tv stars?

Loved NPH. Who knew he could sing like that. And who wrote the lyrics for the last #. Great spur of the moment job. Great follow-up to Hugh Jackman (whose great) Makes me want to Fly to NYC and See some shows. What a super year for Broadway, although I do wish for more NEW shows(Play It By Heart) and fewer revivals of old, past winners----give new blood a chance, like Brian Yorkey et al. Next to Normal----Wow.

If you liked that, you need to check out Mr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog, just released on DVD. Joss Whedon (of Buffy and Firefly fame) wrote and produced it durinig the Writer's Strike, and NPH creates a loveable super villain like you've never seen.

If you do check it out, don't forget to listen to the Commentary section. Hilarious!!
