Rupert Murdoch

Rupert Murdoch told Fox Business Network's Neil Cavuto Monday morning that Barack Obama is not an extremist but that his policies "dangerous" for America. He also said that the Boston Globe will not disappear and that his recently installed #2, Chase Carey, is by no means his "heir apparent."

"I think Barack Obama would describe himself as a pragmatic leftist but he's not an extremist," Murdoch said. "I think he sees himself as a president for change and that involves bigger government. He's made no secret of that. I think that's dangerous."

Murdoch also voiced belief in the Boston Globe, whose union is voting today on pay cuts necessary to keep the paper alive.

"You know, Boston is a very highly unionized place and they may find that difficult but it's a great newspaper and a great institution, the Boston Globe, and I can't see it disappearing," he said. "Like all newspapers, I think it will change. We think of newspapers in the old-fashioned way, printed on crushed wood so to speak, with ink. It's going to be digital. Within 10 years I believe nearly all newspapers will be delivered to you digitally either on your PC or on a development of the Kindle, shall we say...something that's quite mobile and you can take around with you."

When asked whether DirecTV head Chase Carey, returning to News Corp to serve as the company's #2 executive, was his "heir apparent," Murdoch responded, "No, we're not making any commitments on that at all. Chase is coming in to be my partner and right-hand. He was with us for 17 years before, I think. It's like coming home."

Murdoch also dismissed Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's claim that he was using his media empire to trash Berlusconi as retaliation for higher satellite TV taxes in Italy.

"It's nonsense," Murdoch said. "There was a lot of comment a few months ago when he lowered taxes everywhere in Italy, all business taxes, except on satellite television which he doubled. And he does own the competition, and that tax did not apply when he owned [the competition]. That was business. Now we've not retaliated or said anything about that at all. I don't control what the editor of The Times of London says or The Economist says attacking him. The New York Times, God knows I have no influence there."

>> "I think he sees himself as a president for change and that involves bigger government...”

This is a nonsensical argument; and so outdated 19th century thinking: One cannot expect everything (population, trade, commerce, military, people's needs and aspirations) to grow but not governments. Peter Drucker in his book, “Management” cited the case of the Zurich City Hall (built in the early 1900s by the citizens of Zurich) which has ceased to be adequate to house all the city administration.

There are “Zurich City Hall” all over the US. And growth in population, commerce, human needs and aspirations have made them inadequate to house all the town/city administration. (Other things being equal) “natural growth” in government is insignificantly ideological but mainly driven by the growth in needs (imaginary or real) of the people.

Why is it that Murdock has five (5) dual citizenships? Isn't that a basis for revoking his American Citizenship? He has successfully wrecked the Republican party though, so at least he has something to his credit.

He is a Catholic who has met the Pope and yet peddles "pulp fiction" in his so called newspapers. He claims to be pious yet has daily nudes in his newspapers and makes sure that his TV channels churn out right wing rubblish everyday. It's called the "drip, drip" effect and it is very powerful. Not to mention umpteen smear campaigns.
A truly awful man

"I think he sees himself as a president for change and that involves bigger government. He's made no secret of that. I think that's dangerous." -- I agree. Anyone who continually builds an ever larger empire to control the population is dangerous. I would be especially wary if this person seeking to exercise such control was a foreigner, say, a rich guy born and raised in Australia who became a U.S. citizen two years ago to comply with media ownership rules. Anyone in command of such a power base, who became a U.S. citizen solely to amass more power, that dares to tell us what is and is not American and patriotic is not to be trusted.

I rather listen to what Warren Buffett has to say about the economy, rather than to the owner of Fox propaganda machine.

Murdock is responsible for the right wing extremist swing in the media, the evangelical movement, and the republican party. This guy has way to much sway in our society and it is time for a dissolution of his media monopoly.

I think the best thing Murdoch can do is go back to Australia and stay there! If he doesn't like the democratic process in this country maybe it's time to revoke his right to visit our great country.

Murdoch is VERY dangerous. He is close to having the power Hearst did, if he doesn't already. He won't rest until he has HIS president in the White House.

Well, yes, Obama IS dangerous, at least to those who have benefitted from the economic policies of the last eight years, and it doesn't take much thought to realize that would include Mr. Murdoch.
That's why we elected Barack Obama President in the first place. We wanted someone who would be dangerous to those who maintain the status quo.

all this rethoric we here coming from these clowns, is apart of the "I hope obama fail" policy.

they are obstructing everything president obama does, and critizing every effort he makes.

if president obama's actions appear to be a success, like his recent trip to egypt, then we get to hear these clowns blowing hatred, and failing horns at obama.

I say f#### them,

Rupert Murdoch has been instrumental in ruining the news business. An early and ardent supporter of sensationalism, he undermined the news media who reported the facts. A purveyor of human misery, his papers, tv stations, radio stations, etc - everything he touches is debauched by lies, innuendos and gross misrepresentations. No truth (except by accident) is heard on his station broadcasts or in his dailies. The man is purely evil and all he is interested in is money and power. I hope that his industry is repaid in kind someday.
