Rupert Murdoch told Fox Business Network's Neil Cavuto Monday morning that Barack Obama is not an extremist but that his policies "dangerous" for America. He also said that the Boston Globe will not disappear and that his recently installed #2, Chase Carey, is by no means his "heir apparent."

"I think Barack Obama would describe himself as a pragmatic leftist but he's not an extremist," Murdoch said. "I think he sees himself as a president for change and that involves bigger government. He's made no secret of that. I think that's dangerous."

Murdoch also voiced belief in the Boston Globe, whose union is voting today on pay cuts necessary to keep the paper alive.

"You know, Boston is a very highly unionized place and they may find that difficult but it's a great newspaper and a great institution, the Boston Globe, and I can't see it disappearing," he said. "Like all newspapers, I think it will change. We think of newspapers in the old-fashioned way, printed on crushed wood so to speak, with ink. It's going to be digital. Within 10 years I believe nearly all newspapers will be delivered to you digitally either on your PC or on a development of the Kindle, shall we say...something that's quite mobile and you can take around with you."

When asked whether DirecTV head Chase Carey, returning to News Corp to serve as the company's #2 executive, was his "heir apparent," Murdoch responded, "No, we're not making any commitments on that at all. Chase is coming in to be my partner and right-hand. He was with us for 17 years before, I think. It's like coming home."

Murdoch also dismissed Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's claim that he was using his media empire to trash Berlusconi as retaliation for higher satellite TV taxes in Italy.

"It's nonsense," Murdoch said. "There was a lot of comment a few months ago when he lowered taxes everywhere in Italy, all business taxes, except on satellite television which he doubled. And he does own the competition, and that tax did not apply when he owned [the competition]. That was business. Now we've not retaliated or said anything about that at all. I don't control what the editor of The Times of London says or The Economist says attacking him. The New York Times, God knows I have no influence there."

Murdoch...a one-man wea.pon of mass destruc.tion to an informed democracy!

No, he didn't specifically call Obama dangerous, as some here have assumed. BUT media empires like Fox News and Clear Cannel give a mainstream voice to mili.tia and vio.lent anti-government rhetoric. The hate goes unchecked.

Murdoch says he doesn't think Obama is an extremist. Yet his network calls Obama every "--ist" they can think of?? Social.ist, terror.ist, Marx.ist, fasc.ist. I have access to AFN (American Forces Network) programming while overseas. I find it quite offensive to hear shows relentlessly maligning our commander-in-chief.

I understand that hate speech is constitutionally protected. While I don't support outright censorship, I believe SOMETHING should be done to restore political discourse to its rightful and respectful role. A vigorous democracy requires it.

No, Mr. Murdoch, what IS "dangerous" is the impact your media empire has on America's discourse. You brew poison and serve it up to us using the likes of O'Reilly and Hannity and your other minions throughout your pretend "news" org.

Rupert Murdock,....the man who brought you FOX News.

Blond hotties, with short skirts and lip gloss and no news that can't be twisted and warped to make a partisan argument.

I wish posters would read carefully before comenting,What Rupert said was that bigger government was dangerous. In other words more bureaucracy and regulation etc. I dont think anyone would fundamentally disagree with that! Take the UK as an example where more Govt control by socialists has led to disaster and a right wing backlash......
He doesn't mean Obama the man himself is dangerous!!

If the government refuses to be responsible for regulating American commerce, activities, and well-being, who do you think will do it? Certainly not nameless or faceless citizens. It will be those who lust for power, and they won't regulate anything but want to control everything for their own interests.

Sorry, but the government's all we've got. And the government is us, not some vague detached entity. I'd certainly rather the government were America's watchdog and regulator of industry along with American citizens instead of having no watchdogs or regulators at all. THAT's what Murdoch wants, a continuation of GW Bush's "let 'em do anything" practices.

No, thanks.

Rupert YOU are the one who is dangerous for this country. YOU and your yellow journalism. YOU and the control you have over the media. Fair reporting has gone out the window because of you. Actually reporting has gone out the window period!
RUPERT I find you to be unconscionable!

The only dangerous thing about this interview is believing a single word Murdoch has to say.

All around the world the Murdoch media are right wing, mostly hard right wing and the leaders in misinformation and trying to election right wing governments.

There is only one dangerous thing for any country and that is murdoch media. How does he get away with owning so much media? Ok I know, right wing governments changed their laws to allow it, because if promotes them.

The murdoch Australian papers are madly pro right wing anti labor government and are quite happy to lie through their teeth about anything as long as it promotes their cause.

The best thing that could happen to the world is if News Ltd went bankrupt

Why is it that Obama can never take any blame for the state of the economy, but take a huge amount of credit if even the smallest thing goes well?
You can't have it both ways.

In this case, yes you can. The economy has been under President Obama's control for a little over 5 months.....Question....when did things start going south? For how long had things been looking like they were headed to where we are now?

Try finding a better argument. Point is, we just don't know yet whether these policies President Obama is putting into place are going to help or hurt us. Things are slowing, that's a good sign, but unemployment numbers are still rising.

It didn't take us 5 months to get this way, it's going to take much more time to get us out.

For heaven sakes are you blind? Why in the hell should Obama be blamed for something he didn't create? Obama was elected to change direction this country was going in and clean up the mess left by the Republican Part Y(and Bush). For God sake Obama has only been in office for 4 months. This black President has caused the minds of hate to go completly out of control with criticism. You people want us to believe Obama can't do anything right. Hell we know that isn't true. So far Obama has maintained his integrity and professionalism, and he has out-smarted the Republican Party. By doing so he have reduced the Party of no to acting like children.
The fact of the matter is you and other haters want to put Obama in a no-win situation, which means damn if you do and damn if you don't. This is the reason why conservatives and the other Party will criticize EVERY THING OBAMA SAYS AND DOES. It didn't work during the campaign and it may not work now. I'm sure you will continue trying.

Many have called the news media 'The Fourth Estate'. Journalists get legal priveliges that the rest of us don't get.

I have a few questions for Mr. Murdoch:

What do you define as quality journalism? Does the news media have an obligation to society as a whole? And finally, do you ever watch Fox News?

It floored me to find out that the FCC allows news organizations to lie or mislead in their reporting.

Legally, they can lie to us...Faux Noise???? CNN????? MSNBC???? etc, etc. etc.

Problem with this is, the people that watch this krap, believe what they're being told....

Did I just see that your entertainment section is now "sponsored" by Murdock? Is this a sellout? And evil always survives.

What is dangerous is Rupert Murdoch's idea of a "free" press, and the Republican values that have led us down the path that finds us where we are today.

Apparently the answer to all of the right's name calling is "I know what you are, but what am I?"

Why are higher Taxes, big Government, less freedoms as is sin taxes, making business's and business leaders evil, telling us what we have to drive, how much people can earn, ok with you
And
Lower taxes, smaller Government, being able to keep more of the money you make and spending it how and where you want wrong?
Can you answer me that?

Yes. But it would be a waste of time, because you won't pay the slightest heed.

Instead how about you answer some questions: Why are ever higher health care costs leading to individual bankruptcy throughout the land; ever higher fuel costs which bring down all other sectors of the economy; a ginormous military-industrial complex underwritten by taxes; fewer freedoms as in forcing women to bear children against their will, denying homosexuals equal rights, and forcing people to live according to a fundamentalist Christian theology whether they believe in it or not; allowing businesses to do whatever they want regardless of damage to the the economy, the environment, and the public good; encouraing people to drive cars that accelerate global climate change because it makes them feel macho; allowing unregulated ponzi schemes and financial derivatives that produce nothing except more money for multi-billionaires while taking the future from our children's mouths, OK with you?

From a man that encourages his Fox News employees to sway public opinion against the President, it comes as no surprise he would have nothing but negative things to say about Obama and his policies. Where were all these Mr. know-it-all when Bush policies was destroying the economy? They did not warn the American people of the looming disaster, nor were they critical of Bush policies (like they are of Obama’s) which proved to be real "dangerous" for the country.
These Obama haters are sheer idiots devoid of any, I repeat, any credibility. None of these racist bastards were this vocal while Bush was killing the economy and lying to the American people.
They are spitting on democracy and spitting in the face of the voting American public who wanted change. They can’t accept the fact that the American people rejected John McCain and the Republican Party in favor of adopting a new direction, by a man who continue to out smart and out wit all the nay Sayers. I say the hell with all those fools who want to continue the fail policies that put this country on the path of destruction.

Also, for a man to encourage his employees on Faux News to lie, his statement about Obama is more of the blah, blah, blah you hear everyday coming out of Fox. Murdock needs to look in the mirror.
