This is exactly what the last administration was trying to do with 'their' warrantless wiretapping.
indeed .. it is hard to believe a guy like this can get backing whatsoever. he's ruthless and people will act like he's sensible. They will end up embarrassed that they visited this guy. If they care about human rights why would they back him. unbelievable.
The Miami Herald just can't be trusted. They're known for making up fake news about Chavez all the time. That's what the right-wing always does.
And just so you know, Chavez himself regularly invites his critics to speak up and debate. Anyone who's slightly interested (not many people, I guess) can read that on VENEZUELAN NEWSPAPERS. Don't let the MH fool you.
Ok, don't trust The Miami Herald.
How's this? http://lasarmasdecoronel.blogspot.com/2009/06/tremenda-carta-de-diego-arria-un.html
There's a copy of the memo. Good enough for you?
Chavez did good things like renegotiating bad oil deals.
He stopped exporting iron ore and soon they will export steel.
However he gets too high on himself power tripping.
When does he get term limited?
His current term ends in 2012. Then, he'll run for another one, according to the latest Constitution amendment. IF he wins again, he'll be president until 2018.
Chavez has lately made some BAD oil deals himself. He had to BORROW from China and Japan in exchange for future oil shipments on unfavorable business terms, like paying for shipping too.
He has also placed Venezuelan oil producing fields as collateral for another loan from Brazil. This is unconstitutional under the very instrument that forms the basis of his revolution.
He stopped exporting ore because he sold the infrastructure to Argentinean companies. Then he nationalized it, and overpaid in compensation by about 30-40%.
He just nationalized the operations of another Argentine outfit, Techint. If they wait, they'll be overpaid too.
Your last question? Hopefully his term will end in 2013.
How do so many people on here LIKE THIS GUY?!
