I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Fresh off making headlines for calling President Obama a "false prophet" at a GOP fundraiser, actor Jon Voight appeared on Bill O'Reilly's show Tuesday night to continue pressing his case against Obama.

After a quick name-checking of Julius Caesar--as in Obama thinks he is a "soft-spoken Julius Caesar"--Voight got down to business, making the case that Obama is "a fellow who's bringing us to chaos and socialism." [scroll down for the transcript.]

O'REILLY: Wow!

Here now, Mr. Voight.

So what -- what is your essential beef, when you just cut down -- it

was a long speech you gave -- with President Obama?

Story continues below

What -- what's the main complaint?

VOIGHT: Well, it is essentially this, Bill, if I had to break it

down. We were warned by Hillary Clinton that he had no experience, that

he had no qualifications. We were warned by his now vice president, Joe

Biden, he had no experience. So he was a novice.

And now we're getting what we could have expected, if we had

listened. We have a fellow who's bringing us to chaos and socialism.

O'REILLY: I don't see any chaos. In Iraq he's pretty much doing

what Bush did. He's keeping the soldiers there. There may be chaos

when we start to withdraw, but right now it's...

VOIGHT: The chaos I'm speaking of is economic chaos.

O'REILLY: OK. But let's stay -- let's stay with foreign policy and

we'll get into...

VOIGHT: OK.

O'REILLY: ...because you made some points about Julius Caesar, wants

to convince the world. Obviously, you feel he's naive and idealistic.

VOIGHT: Well, I feel he's weak.

O'REILLY: You feel he's weak?

VOIGHT: Just exactly why we have this muscle-flexing from Korea.

Nothing's happening. They...

O'REILLY: What would you do, though?

I mean, you know, we've talked this over. It's a very tough

situation in Korea.

VOIGHT: Well, this is -- there must be a response.

O'REILLY: What kind of a response?

VOIGHT: Well...

O'REILLY: See, now we're getting into a really tough area.

VOIGHT: No -- are you -- do I have the experience to say something

that deeply needs to be said?

I have a, you know, a head on my shoulders, and I can think of a few

things. But certainly they should be let to know that there are going

to be consequences.

Uh, if we didn't allow corporate monopolies throughout every segment of our society then maybe when one failed we would not have to worry about everything crumbling around us. That's Reagan, Clinton & Bush's fault, not Obama's.

The problemhas been the pandering to the unions whether it is labor, government or teacher unions and using borrowed money to do so. This is resulting in rising interest rates and potential inflation for us all. John is right whether he is aware of these facts or not.

for the last 30 odd years corporate CEOs have run our country right down the drain with their bad decisions and unmitigated greed in improving their companies bottom lines to improve their bonuses all by exporting our jobs and our technology overseas....US car companies are in trouble because their fleets average 13 mgp versus 30 mpg for asian companies...this is a management problem not a union problem...wake up and smell the dog sh*t smithie.....

You know attacking labor and not in the same breath saying anything about the corporations makes you comment, stupid

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:46 AM on 06/10/2009

Im for labor...all labor. For instance, the support of union labor hurts labor based off the minimum wage. For instance, if Walmart were to be unionized it will deeply affect the other members of the workforce. These exstra Labor costs will be passed on . Unions do not care. As long as they get their bigger piece of the pie. Up the minimum wage and stop Unions. Let everyone share.

All business owners blame the unions, hence, the middle class for our difficulties. Jon is right about nothing. This goofy idea that for six out of eight years of the Cheney administration the economy was good, just won't cut it. Obama inherited an economic collapse of Mount Everest proportions.

What?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:09 AM on 06/10/2009

It was not Obama who is leading us into Socialism, it is the uncontrolled greed of top executives who caused the current crisis that has the nation upset and wanting changes.

An article by Joseph E. Stiglitz July 2009 in Vanity fair I think states it best: "Every crisis comes to an endโ€”and, bleak as things seem now, the current economic crisis too shall pass. But no crisis, especially one of this severity, recedes without leaving a legacy."....."So, too, is the debate over โ€œmarket fundamentalism,โ€ the notion that unfettered markets, all by themselves, can ensure economic prosperity and growth. Today only the deluded would argue that markets are self-correcting or that we can rely on the self-interested behavior of market participants to guarantee that everything works honestly and properly."

The argument from the GOP seems to be we are uninformed, we are uneducated. No the problem is that the GOP learned nothing from History classes. Anytime in history when Obligarchs had reign conflicts and war ensued until things were corrected.

If Voight wants to be a player then he should run for office or join the active military. Lacking active military experience or a current office his words mean nothing.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:35 AM on 06/10/2009

How does the military prepare anyone for making decisions on foreign policy. It IS possible to travel and learn about other cultures without shooting guns, you know.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:45 AM on 06/10/2009

I agree. It makes me sick to hear people's opinions dismissed because of a lack of military experience, as though there aren't equally worthwhile uses of one's life. If anything, being placed in danger for a nation's foreign policy might give a degree of insight, and possibly teach a person the futility of armed conflict in most cases, but I think you need a preexisting inclination towards that view before you can really get the full epiphany. Some people I know feel war gives them meaning and want more of it, and forget that it seldom accomplishes anything meaningful.

As a disclaimer, I'm an active duty officer with two (futile) OIF tours to date. That doesn't mean I'm going to dismiss, say, the opinions of President Obama because he was never in uniform. Anyone who takes the time to travel the world and learn about those we share it with have a broader perspective than most, and I welcome those insights in the White House.

I will, however, dismiss Voight's opinion. But it's only because he's clearly riding the crazytrain, not because he has no time in the military. There's a subtle difference.

:-D

If Obama fails, it will be because he is continuing George Dubai Bush's neoconservative policies.

Don't people get it? Conservativism has failed. It has destroyed everything it's touched, like some kind of fecal Midas touch.

how has it destroyed everything it has touched?

Conservatism aka capitalism has taken this country from fledgling to super power in only 300 years.... we have seen what your philosophies have done to Russia, Argentina, Cuba, China.....

China, in fact, is now getting more powerful because it is embracing capitalistic philosophies.... it has seen how beneficial having a strong market is for the nation...

If you're so passionately against capitalism why do you deny being a socialist, or a Marxist ?? What the hell are you than?

King Midas in Reverse by Clarke, Hicks & Nash
If you could only see me
I know exactly where I am
You wouldn't want to be me
Oh, I can assure you of that
I'm not the guy to run with
'Cos I'll throw you off the line
I'll break you and destroy you
Given time.
He's King Midas with a curse
He's King Midas in reverse
He's King Midas with a curse
He's King Midas in reverse
It's plain to see it's hopeless
Going on the way we are
So even though I'd lose you
You'd be better off by far
He's not the man to hold your trust
Everything he touches turns to dust
In his hands
Nothing he can do is right
He'd even like to sleep at night
But he can't.
{Interlude with 'all he touches turns to dust' 4x}
I wish someone would find me
And help me gain control
Before I lose my reason
And my soul
He's King Midas with a curse
He's King Midas in reverse
He's King Midas with a curse (all he touches turns to dust)
He's King Midas in reverse (all he touches turns to dust)
{fade out}
He's King Midas with a curse (all he touches turns to dust)
He's King Midas in reverse (all he touches turns to dust)
He's King Midas with a curse...

Chavez? Really? Jon Voight is welcome to have as many opinions as he likes, but no where in that snippet does he expand on this declaration, nor does he have the honesty to admit that part of our fiscal situation is due to a lack of revenue. Obama cannot possibly be blamed for draining the Treasury as it was broke when he inherited it, and we have yet to see if his economic policies will be successful... just like it took a couple of years for us to figure out those supposedly neccessary Bush tax cuts were a disaster. But keep crying about Chavez, a non point, if just the mentioning of his name makes you feel fiscally disciplined and all McCarthy-like...

Oooooh, prickly aren't we? The last time I checked, the Hollywood conservative crowd were yapping in full force - Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, Angie Harmon.

The only problem here is that no one really cares what a has-been whose own kids can't stand him, a drunken hypocrite, and an airhead cheerleader have to say. Sadly for you (and Mr. Voight), the country (and the rest of the world), are only too happy to hear his daughter speak.
