My neighbor has three wonderful little girls. The youngest one celebrated her birthday last week. Unfortunately, he was laid-off 5 months ago and is just barely getting by. No Lion King for his little girl. Too bad for him I guess. But I'm glad to see the FF living it up....
It's too bad that you're friend is out of a job right now. Unfortunately a lot of people are in a similar situation. We can all be sensitive to the current economic environment without rending our clothes and covering ourselves in ashes.
But, you seem to have a crabs-in-a-barrel mentality. Why should you begrudge this family (who has an upper middle class to affluent income independent of the President's salary) a nice/fun family trip.
with a little creativity, and very little expense, on the parent's part and your help, the little girl could have had an excellent birthday. hell you could have downloaded the lion king cd and acted some parts out, done sing along. etc. the kid could have had the time of life. instead of crying and whining about someone else who took their kid to a show and had dinner afterwards. thats just silly.
This child is so cute and her smile is so brilliant that she steals every show, even the Lion King.

What you all forgot to mention was Sasha Obama first cousin went along to with them! Michelle's brother Craig daughter went with them to Paris.
Nice, if I had a niece I would take her also with me. Travelling is a good way to get education, to be tolerant and to have an open mind.

When I was 8, a very kind and patient teacher encouraged me to write short stories about whatever interested me.After she'd read them, she wrote a note to me telling me that they were clever" and made her smile. I've been writing ever since.
