It is hilarious that the republicans are running yelling the sky is falling, when it isn't. They make it seem like the US is moving the detainees from Gitmo to here and letting them run the streets. These are the SAME guys who thought it was ok to torture.
They will be guarded and held just like any other criminal so what is the big deal.

What noone on this thread is asking is what if the detainee is found not guilty, then what do we do?
Let him walk the streets of America free to wage his Jihad against us?

"Presumed innocent."

I believe that when you say that the man is intent to "wage a jihad," you have already found him to be presumed-guilty.

Left to its own process, the criminal justice system works extremely well. If there is or ever was any truth to the allegations (if, indeed, there ever was any allegation at all... not just, say, a tribal bounty hunter), it WILL be found.

What is your process?

The Quran does call for "jihad" as a military struggle on behalf of Islam. But the Quran also refers to jihad as an internal, individual, spiritual struggle toward self-improvement, moral cleansing and intellectual effort. It is said that Prophet Muhammad considered the armed-struggle version of holy war "the little jihad," but considered the spiritual, individual version of holy war--the war within oneself--as "the great jihad."

I didn't realize they had a say in the matter.

Congressional Dems are shameful. I hate these neocons, but maybe they have a point when they brand Dems as weak and girlie men. They have the majority, and behave as if theyre suffering from abused spouse syndrome. No gumption whatsoever

This is really scary.

Obama has ordered the FBI to read captured terrorists their "Miranda Rights", all without telling Congress. Obama is out of control.

What's next, putting yellow police tape around the battlefield as a "crime scene"?

HARDIN, Mont., May 26 (UPI) -- An empty state-of-the-art prison in Hardin, Mont., is the perfect place to house detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the city council said.
The Council unanimously supports moving detainees to Hardin, which has 3,400 residents and is Montana's poorest county, CNN reported Tuesday.

"It would bring jobs. Believe it or not, it would even bring hope and opportunity," Greg Smith, Hardin's economic development director, told CNN.

We here in Illinois have an abandoned maximum security prison sitting and gathering dust between film crews using it.
It housed John Gotti for a period before he died.

And that's what happens when you throw someone into a gulag and torture them for years without charges, without a trial and without any hope simply because someone has branded you the worst of the worst based on prejudice and irrational fear. Let's lock you up, beat you, humiliate yoy and waterboard you on a daily basis for seven years without charging you or giving you access to a lawyer or your family and see how it affects your appetite, Sparky.

The whole "Not in MY backyard!" meme started by Republicans was ridiculous from the very beginning.
04:51 AM on 06/11/2009
They don't care about these detainee's being in OUR backyards. They only care that the detainees will get ahold of GOOD legal representation and it will be discovered and the American people will find out that they were grabbed, imprisoned, tortured, and held without charges for 7 years...and did NOTHING wrong. That just might not bode well for repug's future elections.

Flip-flop I'm getting whiplash already. Make a decision and stick to it. Wow, this act was really transparent wasn't it?

The Senate Democrats who were part of that humiliating 90-6 spectacle and party to embarrassing the president should issue apologies for allowing themselves to be punk'd by the GOP.
04:54 AM on 06/11/2009
What is it with repugs and apologies????? I guess it says a lot about them, considering Bush never apologized for ANY of the war crimes he committed.

The fact that Congress is passing a bill, for or against fundamental Constitutional rights that are and have been for years now, full of obviously abused "suspects" sickens me. Guantanamo is a hell house where cruelty and suffering abound. Our system is in Constitutional crisis that the people must address.

Of course the gulag should be shut down -- for many years now. Every human being should be afforded rights we pretend we have!

Also, this bill is huge containing $100 billion for IMF and more for Pakistan. More details about how the money would be spent and who and how it will be regulated and ripped off.

You mean the "hotel Gitmo" and "they're treated better than Americans" was all a big lie?

Shocker...
