Diabetic Bret Michaels: I Hold Off Insulin For Better Sex

Bret Michaels has a back-page interview with the July issue of Elle Magazine, which has Gwen Stefani on the cover.

Inside he talks about groupies and life on the road, and finishes saying how he literally risks his life for better sex.

ELLE: You've lived with diabetes since you were a kid. How does the disease affect your sex life?

BM: The only time it will ever affect you in bed is if you have extremely low blood sugar and you go into insulin shock, at which point you won't be standing up, let alone performing sex. However, I will sometimes hold off on the insulin, which will jack my blood sugar level up to the low 200 range. It's like how a prizefighter will want to go into the ring with his blood sugar levels high. It gives you the stamina of a bull. So, yes, sometimes I will endanger my own life to pleasure a woman.

How incredibly irresponsible of him. I can just imagine all the young (and/or old) folks with diabetes who think he's cool and who'll try his "enhancing" method...t­o their detriment and/or death.

A young (or old) partner won't necessarily know what to do should there be a diabetes-induced medical emergency during sex - particularily when it has *purposefully* been allowed to reach the danger-point, and there is always the possibility of the 'trick' being used by the diabetic when, (ahem) going solo. Both scenarios could be fatal.

Yes, incredibly, *incredibly* irresponsible of him for 'glamorizing' his dangerous game to such a wide audience AND of Elle for publishing it.

Uhm, you might be taking this a bit too seriously. Far too often I will see people walking around without any short-term effects (the long-term effects are a different story) with their blood sugar over 500. They are being very stupid, but not risking their life on a moment-to-moment basis. Taking too much insulin or taking the same amount of insulin as normal and then exercising a lot would in fact be dangerous.

There really are some life-threatening sexual practices, but I'll leave those to your imagination.

He must be hypoglycemic,I am hyperglycemic,maybe 200 gives him energy, but when mine gets 200-300-400 it makes you weak and very lethargic, the food you eat does not turn into energy.I guess what he is doing is as much to pleasure himself as his partner.
