I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Bret Michaels

Bret Michaels has a back-page interview with the July issue of Elle Magazine, which has Gwen Stefani on the cover.

Inside he talks about groupies and life on the road, and finishes saying how he literally risks his life for better sex.

ELLE: You've lived with diabetes since you were a kid. How does the disease affect your sex life?

BM: The only time it will ever affect you in bed is if you have extremely low blood sugar and you go into insulin shock, at which point you won't be standing up, let alone performing sex. However, I will sometimes hold off on the insulin, which will jack my blood sugar level up to the low 200 range. It's like how a prizefighter will want to go into the ring with his blood sugar levels high. It gives you the stamina of a bull. So, yes, sometimes I will endanger my own life to pleasure a woman.

What a load of c-r-a-p.

If you are a diabetic, go get diabetic education from a qualified RN. Much less importantly, don't listen to the humongously stupid Bret Michaels.

Hahahahaha you fool. Get and education from an RN. He is the EXPERT fool. He has survived 40 years without any complications! That means he is doing something right! Diabetes is a progressive, dibilitating disease. You don't get better. If you are very, very careful, you MIGHT escape early onset complications. 40 years is a very long time.

Hi Bret. That's just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. But it might explain why so few hair metal guys are left.

correction:

"Irresponsible management would be starting off to low or failing to recheck intermittently, then taking more sugar or juice to return to a safer higher level if you find your blood sugar dropping faster than expected."

should be: Irresponsible management would bestarting off too low or failing to recheck intermittently. Rechecking intermittently, then taking more sugar or juice to return to a safer higher level if you find your blood sugar dropping faster or too fast so that you know your going too have a serious low.

Sex is excercise, and every type i diabetic knows that before excercise you need to raise your blood glucose to a higher level than you might need for say sittiing around listening to music. the low 200's is fine for excercise as it is safer for the diabetic than starting excercise with a blood glucose of say 130 or 150. You must have a higher number to avoid going dangerously low(less than 60) during excercise. that is sound management. Irresponsible management would be starting off to low or failing to recheck intermittently, then taking more sugar or juice to return to a safer higher level if you find your blood sugar dropping faster than expected. Your goal is to avoid going too low. Normal blood glucose is 70 to 120. Seizures result from too low a blood glucose or one that has been too low for say thrty to fourty mnutes. but not always. Just becuse your 40 briefly doesn't mean you will have a seizure. But if you stayed at 40 for 30 to 45 minutes while asleep for example you could have a seizure.. You need to get glucose right away. Now if Huff po could be more responsible about these kinds of stories!
Huff po I am the mother of a type 1 and while i appreciate news of how some type 1's who are higher profile manage type 1 I do not appreciate misleading statements you make about how that person manages type 1.

Amen, Sister! My own sister has been a Type 1 for 18 years. My nephew has been for three.

Bret Michaels did not explain very well what he is doing, and a lot of people here don't know squat about diabetes.

Michaels needs to go away. Ironic after he lowered the standards of decency with his Rock of Love shows the Tony's lowered the set on his face.

Just to put things in perspective, Mr. Michaels might start at 200, but I bet when he stops his blood sugar is around 80-90.
