Michelle Obama's Flamboyant London Fashion: Love It Or Lose It? (PHOTOS, POLL)

Michelle Obama layered it on in London Tuesday, wearing a tunic with ruffled ribbons and fabric flowers, a wide plastic belt, and not one, but two cardigans.

She also wore slim-fitting black pants and black flats.

The outfits are NOT flattering to her body type. She can wear all the crazy colors and flower prints she wants to but those wide cuts, huge belts, and ruffles emphasize her negative features. She is a beautiful woman and can look great in things that are cut, proportioned, and fit properly.

The photo of her through the car window is a winner. She looks radiant and beautiful and hideous mass of clothes she had on. If she's planning on being a style leader then she's already failed as the only one wearing those kind of clothes would perhaps being those young celebrities who will wear anything if someone tells them it's stylish. Michelle's mom dresses more elegantly than her daughter!

Ms. Obama is a strikingly attractive woman, but I don't think the hair slicked back from her face is a flattering look. The only women I've seen who could carry off that austere a hairstyle were Audrey Hepburn all her life and Grace Kelly in her acting years (in other words, when she was really young).

I'd also like to see fewer belts worn across the First Lady's midriff. If she's really short waisted (as the belts imply to me), she could certainly start a new trend with the Empire waistline. The Empire waistline was popular back in the Mary Quant years and is flattering to the majority of women since it rides immediately under the bustline, not halfway between the bust and the waist.

I also would like to see her wear fewer gathered skirts. I haven't worn gathered skirts since I hit puberty and developed ample curves below the waist. Gathered waistlines magnify the hips and derriere, which is why most such waistlines are seen on little girls, who mostly don't have much in the way of either.

Michelle Obama looks lovely in these pics! I know for a fact that most of the people on here posting comments probably shop at Wal-Mart or Cato for their muu-muus. LOL! These haters really need a life. Most of the women on here posting couldnt pull off any of the outfits Michelle can, no matter how hard they tried. It kills me to hear and read women bashing MO when they cant even dress themselves, lots of women at my job like talking trash about MO's fashion sense when they all have horrible bodies, no sense of fashion, and wouldnt dare show their upper arms!

I am 60 yrs young, I would wear what Michelle wears. It is totally her. I love it so much, her style is unique, but very tasteful and 'warm', as her personality. Way to go Michelle......hope you love my mother country.

I used to wear things similar to Michelle when I was in high school and college. She has a very immature fashion sense, especially for a woman who knows she will be photographed regardless of her "vacation" or not. The real concern is I am sure she has a stylist but apparently she does not want advice. She spends a lot on her clothes and the results do not reflect this.

She has a whole team of people to make sure she looks good. They all need to be fired.

That's it! Her fashion sense is very immature. I've been saying that it doesn't take money to look and dress nicely and elegantly. It's all a matter of taste and the right look and keeping it simple and wear the clothes instead of looking like they are wearing you.

SF13, you hit the nail right on the head. Many people are walking around who appear mature on the outside but are really immature on the inside.

MO has the same mentality that she had when she left the South Side of Chicago years ago. She has not developed herself. I don't care if you went to college or not, everyone should have a personal development program. For years I did not have a college degree but my personal development activities helped me succeed anyway.

I recently read a quote where MO said that Pres. Obama was always reading books, and I thought, "Well, what about you?" It's obvious from what we're seeing from her that she has not spent much time preparing herself for such an important role as first lady. That's what personal development does: it prepares you for whatever you end up doing in life. Many people think they don't have to keep learning and growing once they get out of school, but that is not true. You should keep learning and growing until the day you take your last breath. As for a stylist, I have read in more than one article that MO does not have a stylist and according to her aides, she says she doesn't need one. Confidence or arrogance? You decide.

Her choices are like that of a teenager in the sense that she chooses some things that are in "style" i.e. the belts but they don't look good on her. The too tight twin set cardigan and tops from J. Crew don't look good on her because they don't fit her well. They are cute if you're in your 20's or you are very slender perhaps.

Her choices and unwillingness to ask for help seem like the attitude of a teenager. A defiance that you see in teenagers appears to be coming through. For a woman who has the resources of the whole world quite literally it is a pity she does not at least try some advice from others. She can always reject it after trying it.

The wedding cake top is just wrong. I don't care how old your are.

Actually, for meeting Queen Elizabeth she wore a sort of cocktail dress during the day.
Obviously a strong message to the Queen that she had somewhere more important to go later that evening..She threw the ever ready black cardigan over it, so I guess that made it ok..
The now infamous easter egg top was most likely a little number from her Paris shopping trip...One of those 'take your breath away' boutiques where you don't know where they get the nerve to ask the prices they do for such crap..I'm guessing in the close to one thousand dollar range..
Mrs. Obama can be a wonderful role model for so many young women, and I think she would like to be thought of that way...It's not like she has to cook, clean, go to a crappy job, or any of the other things that most American women do every day. Why can't someone get her to put the shopping trips on hold, and start getting attention for all the good things she is so easily capable of doing? There is so much talent there, I'd like to see her use it for higher purposes.

That is your opinion which I do not agree with. And yes she can wear anything she wishes and yes criticism comes with it like it or not. If she was just a regular person and I saw her at a party, I would not even look twice. There is nothing there for me. Carla Bruni would turn heads at any party.

Carla Bruni was a MODEL, there is no point comparing her with non-models... being beautiful is what she did for a living.
I for one would notice Michelle Obama, she's 6 feet tall and very muscular! Very pretty too imho.
