Shia LaBeouf: I Watched My Parents Have Sex, Am An Alcoholic

Shia LaBeouf, 23, is on the cover of the upcoming issue of Parade magazine. Inside Dotson Rader describes the Transformers actor as "foul-mouthed, resentful, funny, prickly, quick-witted, and charming -- a package of contradictions."

LaBeouf says the source of his humor is from "seeing my parents have sex, smoke weed, my mom being naked ... [and] twisted R-rated humor."

"The good actors are all screwed up. They're all in pain. It's a profession of bottom-feeders and heartbroken people," LaBeouf also says, describing what caused his split with China Brezner, whom he dated for three years.

"Maybe it was career pressure. ... Maybe I chose work. Every man has those feelings of escape and survival. I know you shouldn't be that way. I'm trying to understand it and find the answers. I don't have them now. Why did the love of my life and I break up? ... Man, I have no idea. What was that all about? I have no answers to anything. None. Why am I an alcoholic? I haven't a damn clue! What is life about? I don't know."

Shia said of hiving his life, "Sometimes I feel I'm living a meaningless life and I get frightened. I know I'm one of the luckiest dudes in America right now. I have a great house. My parents don't have to work. I've got money. I'm famous. But it could all change, man. It could go away. You never know."

Of his skyrocketing career he said, "I don't handle fame well. Most actors on most days don't think they're worthy. I have no idea where this insecurity comes from, but it's a God-sized hole. If I knew, I'd fill it, and I'd be on my way."

LaBeouf is often an outspoken in interviewee, telling Playboy that his mother is the sexiest woman he knows.

You really have to commend this guy for not only being so honest but for recognizing his problems. I just hope he's getting help for his alcoholism and not trying to doctor himself. He's right too about many actors and reknowned ones coming from backgrounds that made them escape into Hollywood roles. So many of the famous actors of Hollywood's golden age would have been left by the wayside and had miserable lives. So many of them came from broken homes with parents that were cold and distant or alcoholics or worse. It was Holllywood that kept their terrors in check, even if some couldn't deal with them and did get into trouble and Hollywood e.g., Busby Berkely was a drunk and ran someone over with his car and killed that person, Fernando Lamas beat up Lana Turner severely and was a psycho who abused Esther Williams and Rita Hayworths father may very well have pimped her when she was a kid when she and her father were a dance act in some Mexican border town etc but these people are no different than everyone else generally. It hppens all the time outside Hollywood.

Just taking a wild stab here but maybe Shia's alcoholism and breakup are somehow ...connected? It's a shame for someone so young and talented ...if you haven't already, Shia, I do hope you consider getting into some form of therapy, rehab or treatment.

Sounds like he had the bohemian parents that a lot of kids who grew up in the 80s/90s had. The child safety and parenting standards are tougher now than they were back then.

It is uncomfortable hearing some of what he says - especially about his parents and his mother - but I like him and his honesty.

I think if we all were totally honest about the weird and effed-up things that have happened in our lives, we'd all be better off.

Parade--every sunday paper every week, celebrity cover, two page story on the inside how said cover celebrity is dealing with or has otherwise overcome some sort of terrible adversity in their life (insert alcoholism, abusive relationship, death of a parent, death of a pet, missing parent, seeing parents naked etc.), and how said cover celebrity has grown and blossomed from said adversity into a stunningly mature and successful celebrity. We have a running joke about it in our household.
