The Venezuelan government of U.S.-critic President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday ordered Coca-Cola Co to withdraw its Coke Zero beverage from the South American nation, citing unspecified dangers to health.

right on. we allow our people to eat so many things that are banned in other countries. unfortunately for us, the FDA is a joke and a shill for corporate America. they won't protect us from these substances. this is why people are obese, it's why we get different ca ncers than other nations. it's why our people aren't the healthiest in the world. wake up FDA, start protecting the people!
Coca-Cola's entire enterprise is a sham anyway. Their product is distilled carbonated water (with negligible amounts of NaCl added "for taste", artificial coloring, artificial sweetener, caffeine,their "secret" ingredients coca extract and orange zest. An entire vat of a Coca-Cola product costs a few dollars. The cost basis is aluminum cans, plastic bottles (all of which contribute to the land fill issue), transportation and endless billions on advertising. It has absolutely no nutritive value. Yet, they charge about a buck a can out of a vending machine.
Occasionally, there is some logic behind Hugo C's madness.
But not in this case. There's no evidence that Coke Zero poses any health risks. None!
Hugo doesn't really know if Coke is bad for you, nor does he care. He just wants to ban something American. He'll be banning Mickey Mouse next
As an adult I don't need anyone to protect me from myself and what I choose to consume. The information about these products is out there and several have been listed on this board. Consumer information groups do more to protect people than the FDA ever could.
That must be why so many "responsible adults" are morbidly obese.
That would be the wrong thing for the FDA to do! The right-wing conservatives love to have as many mindless people as possible! that's the only way these snakes can feel so type of worth.

the irony of the whole thing is that many cancers could just as easily be prevented. i.e. lung cancer, cervical cancer

The stuff is crap, I don't need the government to tell me though. Venezuela is way to far to the left, just as we were to far to the right from 2000-2008.
There is historical precedent for the US to simply force this mysteriously produced "0" substance on the Venezuelan people.

It would actually be healthier for you to drink glass cleaner like Windex than any type of cola... It's definitely less acid. When you get to the diet drinks, on top of that there are the damages caused by sugar substitutes, some of them are even carcinogen

Coca-Cola should just add back in the missing ingredient, call it "The Real Thing," or "Smokin' Coke" or something, and sell it to Hugo. You just know he'd love it. Then he could nationalize Coca-Cola, increase the percentage of the missing ingredient, drink all he wants, ensuring he is in a state of permanent tweakosis, encourage all his followers to drink it, thereby cutting the amount of the original ingredient exported to our own original ingredient-hungry nation, and thus solving, or at least mitigating, at least two of our most obnoxious national thorns in the side. Just a thought. The CIA is probably working on it already.
If this is based on aspartame, it's a fair call. And if the FDA weren't in the pocket of the pharmaceutical companies, it would be illegal here.
High-fructose corn syrup, with its toxic contaminants, isn't much better. A soft drink sweetened with plain old sugar is very different.
The bottom line is, no matter what a soft drink is flavored with, most people drink far too much of the stuff.

Aspartame is actually not good for you. It breaks down into Aspartate which is a neurotransmitter which causes issues with the blood brain barrier, allowing too much of it through which in large enough quantity ends up acting a neurotoxin. During the digestive process, specifically when the breakdown of Aspartame releases methanol in the small intestine, which in turn becomes formaldehyde then formic acid. formaldehyde is very dangerous.
It is my personal belief that it should never have been approved by the FDA.
You DO KNOW, that when aspertame made by Searle, was approved by the FDA, Rumsfeld WAS CEO AT SEARLE ( 1983)
