Napolitano

Recent incidents of extremist violence claiming the lives of abortion provider George Tiller and a security guard at the Holocaust Museum have prompted calls for the Department of Homeland Security to accelerate the release of an updated report on right-wing extremism.

Amid howls that it had politicized national security, DHS stepped back from a mid-April report it had issued on domestic threats from fringe right-wing groups. "The report is no longer out there," Secretary Janet Napolitano told lawmakers, promising to have the report "replaced or redone in a much more useful and much more precise fashion."

Several weeks later, the findings of the original study have been proven prescient, specifically in its warnings about violent acts from anti-abortion zealots and anti-Semites. Now, demands for that follow-up have grown more urgent.

On Thursday, the judicial advocacy organization, People for the American Way, faxed a letter to Napolitano calling on the Department of Homeland Security Chief to "expedite the approval of the 'Rightwing Extremism' report and release a final version as soon as possible."

"Although the [original] report was withdrawn with the intent of being rewritten, the events of the last two weeks show that its core findings are fundamentally correct: 'The economic downturn and the election of the first African-American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment.' The Department of Homeland Security is charged with protecting the security of all Americans, and it is essential for the American public to have the unvarnished truth about the rise of dangerous extremism in this country," read the letter from PFAW President Michael Keegan.

"I urge you to expedite the approval of the "Rightwing Extremism" report and release a final version as soon as possible," Keegan added. "Moreover, the report should offer the best available assessment of possible threats from far-right groups and individuals, no matter how politically inconvenient the findings might be to some groups. If the report can not be released immediately, please announce publicly the current status of the report and when you expect it to be published."

A researcher on right-wing organizations noted that the security onus was on DHS to act fast. "The threat of right-wing violence is only increasing," said the source, "and Americans could be put at risk if DHS takes too long to issue a new report or waters the old one down."

Indeed, in the wake of the shooting of a Holocaust Museum security guard by white supremacist James Von Brunn, the original DHS report is getting a more favorable review. Even some critics of the study, who claimed that it compared conservatives and returning veterans to domestic terrorists, acknowledged that their initial reactions may have been hasty and overblown. That said -- and this is important -- the report was never formally pulled, according to a DHS official. Despite reports otherwise, the department, this official said "never retracted the original report." It was, as Napolitano noted in her testimony, "taken off of the intel Web sites." As the official said, DHS "very publicly acknowledged it had flaws."

But, that official added, "We stood by the underlying intel... it was never pulled back from the entities who received it in the first place."

Domestic Terrorist List Includes Enviros, Affirmative Action Groups
by William Fisher
September 5, 2005
IPS) -- U.S. government security agencies disagree on the threats posed by domestic radical rights groups.

Ten years after the Oklahoma City bombing left 168 people dead, one national security agency believes the groups do not pose a substantial threat, while another labels white supremacists as "terrorists" -- along with anti-war groups, affirmative action organizations and animal rights activists.
The apparent inconsistencies are contained in documents recently made public from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the FBI.

A draft internal document from the DHS obtained by The Congressional Quarterly lists the only serious domestic terrorist threats as radical animal rights and environmental groups such as the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front.

But an FBI report released to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) last week lumps neo-Nazi groups such as the Michigan Militia and the Aryan World Church together as potential terrorists with organizations such as the Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration and Immigrant Rights and Fight for Equality by Any Means Necessary (BAMN) -- a national civil rights and affirmative action organization.

The FBI report was prepared by a counterintelligence agent at the agency's Detroit field office for a Domestic Terrorism Symposium hosted by the Michigan State Police.

The FBI report acknowledges that BAMN's demonstrations were peaceful.

Spying on pacifists, environmentalists and nuns

An undercover Maryland State Police trooper infiltrated nonviolent groups and labeled dozens of people as terrorists.

By Bob Drogin
December 07, 2008 .

Maryland officials now concede that, based on information gathered by Lucy and others, state police wrongly listed at least 53 Americans as terrorists in a criminal intelligence data base -- and shared some information about them with a half-dozen state and federal agencies, including the National Security Agency.

Among those labeled as terrorists: two Catholic nuns, a former Democratic congressional candidate, a lifelong pacifist and a registered lobbyist. One suspect's file warned that she was "involved in puppet making and allows anarchists to utilize her property for meetings."

Lies Lies Lies

Today, the fake liberals and government operatives try as hard as they can to make these DHS documents seem to be something other than the disgusting treasonous abominations that they are.
The writers of these documents and those that spread them will one day very soon stand before
a jury and answer for the violations of the civil rights of Americans.

Just as Conservatives under bush loved stripping rights away from their political enemies
they never imagined that it would be democrats that took control over the apparatus of tyranny that these
documents represent.

Well newsflash to all you fake liberals. Keep thinking your winning and that no level of tyranny that you create will ever come back and bite you in the arsh. Then after Obama leaves office, the right will take hold of all the reigns of terror and use the very laws and reports you are now writing to spy on and strip you of ALL your little liberal rights.

While watching Morning Joe I came away with this question, why was this story barely mentioned and I mean barley. While all the other networks had in-depth coverage on this story, Morning Joe apparently didn't find this story important enough to cover.

Now folks, ask yourselves this question, if it had been someone from the Middle East who had committed this monstrous act; The Morning Joe crew would have been all over it and at the sometime interjecting that Cheney was right; they would have rushed to bring his daughter on air to ask her for opinion; but apparently White Supremacist murdering a guard and attempting to murder others is barley worth reporting.

I guess when Joe Scarborough said he was worried we would get attack under President Obama he didn't expect it would be from his neck of the woods.

Animal activists top FBI terrorist list

May 19, 2005 - 10:54AM

The FBI says the United States' top domestic terrorism threat is environmental and animal rights activists who have turned to arson and explosives.

Some of the activists also target companies abroad who have policies they disagree with.

Groups such as the Animal Liberation Front, the Earth Liberation Front and the Britain-based SHAC, or Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty, are "way out in front" in terms of damage and number of crimes, said John Lewis, the FBI's deputy assistant director for counterterrorism.

"There is nothing else going on in this country over the last several years that is racking up the high number of violent crimes and terrorist actions," Lewis said.

Animal Liberation Front says on its web site that its small, autonomous groups of people take "direct action" against animal abuse by rescuing animals and causing financial loss to animal exploiters, usually through damage and destruction of property. Earth Liberation Front is an underground movement with no public leadership, membership or spokesperson.

You will find that this will involve friend against friend, brother against brother, race against race, parents against children..and vice versa...American against American...who?

Not so much...

We propose enforcing the laws that were written to protect us from wackjobs like this.

In Georgia there is a statute called "terroristic threats"- what some of the loons have been saying certainly qualifies.

I'm not talking about wack jobs like Von Brunn and doctor killers, what I am talking about is the call for classifying whole groups of people based on their religious, and, or politcal beliefs as extremists.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:43 PM on 06/11/2009

And when were you going to answer my questions? Von Brunn and other wackos are not who I am talking about, I am talking about huge groups of people on this so-called extremist list who differ from the left only in their core beliefs concerning religion, social issues and political affiliation.

Not really, this is a small group of whackos like yourself. The most of us are sane, critical thinkers that know the difference between right and wrong. The left doesn't hang out at abortion clinics or Neo-nazi rallies and kills people. That's you guys. We are just trying to enforce the laws on the books and hope it stops your whacko brothers and sisters.

You don' t know me from a hole in the ground...this is exactly the point I was making...jumping to a 'whacked out' conclusion simply for asking a question. In case recent history has escaped you...recent military personnel are on that list, as are whole groups of AMERICANS who differ only in their moral, political and religious views from you. I have never seen, much less hung out an abortion clinic, and I don't kill people, and when you try to take away the 2nd amendment rights of Americans...remind yourself about enforcing the laws on the books. Thanks for ''emphasizing" the point I was trying to make.

While I don't see any legal or moral reason to deprive anyone of their right to express their worldview (no matter how deranged or antisocial it might be) the minute that hateful talk turns to planning, preparation, or execution of a crime, the gloves come off. This includes calls to violence, whereby the person attempting to incite violence intends to compel a third party to commit misdeeds via incitement, either in lieu of or alongside themselves. The law provides amply in that respect.

The greatest threat posed by and what I feel is a defining quality of extremism is organized conspiracy. Not the exercise of the wholly natural and Constitutional rights of free speech and free expression, but where in the course of that exercise plans to commit acts of violence are formulated and set into motion. That is where the line should be drawn - no taking out anyone unless and until they're currently causing or preparing to cause harm.

How is the fact that the report was proven prescient and accurate "undermining" its credibility?

If anything, the report has only been given more credibility to rational people in America. The only people who believe it lacks credibility are those right wing extremist who subscribe to the ideas outlined in the report (you know, like the Holocaust Museum shooter).

When Bush's FBI and DHS listed animal rights groups as potential domestic terrorists, I didn't wring my hands in fear simply because I don't believe in the cruel treatment of animals.
